Fallout 2 problem

I've just innstalled the 1.1 patch for Fallout 2 as the readme instructs. But then the game wouldn't start no matter what I did... Then I uninstalled the game but the Fallout "application" file was still there and I couldn't delete it. Know I can't autorun the disc nor start the setup program.. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

The first official patch for Fallout 2 is 1.2b, and 1.1 for Fallout. A wild guess - you've accidentally installed the patch for the wrong game (although I don't know how this is possible), so uninstalling the game doesn't remove all the files.
As for fixing the problem, try with manual installation.

Actually, the very first version of Fallout 2 that came out was 1.00. There is patches for 1.01 and 1.02, though those are rare to find.

Probably your idea is more close to truth, but it is possible to install 1.01 patch to the game, which is already patched 1.02, thus corruptin the game. I know as I have done that. The problem is that almost all versions of Fallout 2 which are sold nowadays are already patched to 1.02, but in some cases the readme file is incompleted and still claims that you must install 1.01/1.02 patches immediately.

First 10.2, then depending on your preferences.

1) Immediately 1.05. Some have claimed that not installing any patches between 1.02 and 1.05 is their only option to get the game working

2) 1.03 -> 1.04 -> 1.05 Fixes some more bugs than just 1.05, though you won't miss anything critical with just 1.05. Some have claimed that they can't get the game work after this install order.

Then comes the question wether you need Children Patch. That would have to be install in correct place in the install order, especially if using the long route. I believe it's said in the readme of the patch after which patch to install it.
