Question Fallout 1 - Fuse needed for water pump?

I did use the most excellent Falche to boost me from the start so I could try a solution I'd never thought of before. Instead of stealing the chip, I would try to repair the pump. I rushed down to that area, I currently have 117 days left.

I'm in Necropolis, I agreed to repair the pump. I got the parts pile in the sewer south of where Harry is. However, I go up to the pump, open the skill set, select "Repair" then click on the pump. I get this message down in the console:

"You fail to repair the water pump. It might need a new fuse."

What did I miss? I've looked back into the sewer area and didn't find any additional pickups. Are you just not able to repair the pump? Surprisingly, google search and searching the forums didn't yield any answers, I thought for sure someone would have come across this before.

Thanks in advance.

never gotten that before. ya may need to just grab the chip and finish the quest. the water pump quest is just from Set to get you some xp and a different ending for necropolis. try just resting a few days and trying to repair it again ? ..or does it use up the 'junk' when ya fail?

Not really sure.

What if Set was killed? Might that affect the outcome? I don't like him, so I gave him a dirt nap. I'll load up the game from the cave and head down south again. I've always stolen the chip and went on a killing spree, just one game I want to be nice to the ghoulies.

Send a message via ICQ to Mr. Pastorius
<spoiler, highlight to read>You have to use the junk (or, the fuse as the game calls it) on the pump, and if you pass a repair check, you'll fix it.<spoiler end>

That was it, thank you very much. I had been running around for 3 hours looking for that silly fuse and I had it this whole time.
