display problems

I have just installed Fallout 2 on my computer. However when I start the game the display changes from 1024x720 to 800x600 resulting in a shift to the right and a verticle strectch which cuts off the bottom of the screen and leaves a black bar on the side. Is there a way change this in-game or a patch i should get?

Try changing your screen-resolution downwards before playing Fallout 2, and see if that helps. Then you can always reset it after you are done playing. Fallout 2 can't run (out-of-the-box) at that high resolution anyways.

I run my desktop at 1024x768, but Fallout 2 automatically and withouth problems scales down when I launch the game. I think from the look of it, that Fallout 2 runs in 640x480 resolution.

Assuming you have a decent monitor you should be able adjust that from buttons on the front of your monitor. (the monitor has different geometry settings for every resolution, so adjusting yo 800x600 settings shouldn't effect your normal 1024x768 settings (this is assuming you bought your monitor within the last few years).
