A new XP problem? Or something else?

Well, I have a problem that I can't see an analogue for in this forum.

I can't seem to install Fallout 2 on my XP computer - a dual processor, possibly with two onboard video cards. It tells me "error initializing video mode".

I've tried changing the setup file to other compatibility modes, but no help. I've also tried disabling one of the video cards (it appears to have a primary and secondary).

Any help to offer? Glad to see people still post here for those having problems.

Tim

disabling you mean by removing on card out of the motherboard of just disabling?

:P

and perhaps you should seek someone who has running fallout 2 with a dual processor

I mean just disabling through My Computer -> Device Manager.

I'm able to play the game on another, sound-deprived, system so I'm okay anyways. Wish it worked though.

Dude... This is INTERPLAY we are talking about... They made heck of a game, but it is has more bugs in it than a bee hive, so i doubt they thought about making it more flexible in the future. My guess is, it is simply to old for your PC to run it.

it doesn't work well with XP, that's for sure. you could try disabling both cards, as I had some success after disabling mine. the problem is that there are many many problems, and it's very hard to predict what the solutions are.

that primary and secondary graphic device driver description sounds like you've got a single ATI card. ATI's are set up that way. if you decide you want to disable the onboard ATI, you need to leave the secondary driver alone. of course, if you DO disable the primary, that leaves you kinda stranded.

try going into your card settings in control panel and changing everything to oldtimey FO settings. 800x600 by 16 bit colors. and then change your compatibility mode for the FO exe to Win95 or Win 98.

might work.

worst comes to worst, go on a hunt on ATI's site for OLD drivers. try em out one by one, going as far back as you need. make sure you get their driver cleaner too. makes it go a lot easier on you.
