im a confused noob

Ok.. im sorry but.. well .. how do you open doors... ive been playing... oh some 30 minutes and cannot figure out how to open the basic old door! please help!

if the door isn't locked and you can go through it, just approach it. it should get targeted (blue outline) and you press the A button to go through. if it's locked and you're sure you want to go in, you can try to pick the lock if you have enough guile or you can just bash it down with your fists or a sword. note that both of these actions will give you evil points. if there's no outline for the door, it just wasn't meant to be.

im in the child stage... none of the doors are highlighted does this matter or are they not supposed to be?

Not supossed to be yet.. just do the couple of good/evil deeds avalible in the Oakvale... kep on playing until you are free to wander the world. Some house doors later on in the came will be closed or locked because the npc are asleep. Only doors that really need to be activated with the A button are demon doors but you'll find that out soon enough.
