Does anyone know who, and and from where you can get people to follow you?

can you lure children, as i am sure that a child sacrifice will give you HUGE evil boost

teleport works on hired mercs
some people can follow you through teleport, but i do not know why they're special - maybe if they're in love with you

as for kids, i don't think they can leave their map - imagine this....
a local hero (good or bad) says "follow me kids - we're going on an adventure"
the kids, following the hero, run by their mom and say, "mommy, we're going help the hero!"
mommy says "YEAH RIGHT, GET YOUR ARSE BACK HERE!"

As already stated Mercs will follow you through teleporters and anywhere else.

I have not been able to get wifes, or townspeople to follow me anywhere except around town. They wont leave the map.

After you rescue the boy from the Hobbes in the cave he runs away from Grandma at the Rose Cottage. Once that quest is complete you can flirt with Granny and work your Mojo on her. Once she is in love with you she will follow you off the map.

With one exception (kid in cave), kids can't die, even at a merc's hands. And as best I can tell, kids will not follow you out of their map by any means. They will follow you around town but thats it.
