XP? Reduced or cannon?

Im wondering what they will do about exp?

Taking pen and paper - A EL1 encounter is designed to cause a lvl 1 party of 4 to expend roughly 25% of their resources in dealing with it.

14 EL encounters matching the average pary level is designed to give a 4 pc party enough exp to level.

Can this be realistically done in DnDO? NWN seriously killed the XP per monster yet in order for it to 'work' (read hack n slash) you waded through hundred of monsters and ended up with lvl 20 characters by the time you finished. Granted in DnD-PnP you share exp with the group (and EL1 encounter would grant 300 exp to to the group - shared 4 ways is approx 90ish exp each) but todate most mmorpgs have been about monster click fest. 'kill 20 gnolls' okay I kill 20 gnolls each are CR1 thats 20X300 exp oo 2 levels worth of exp. A bit extreme but it kind of brings about the point.

Im guessing EXP will be reduced. What do you think? Should it be?

The other thing: Should exp be awarded on the fly after a kill or at some set point? In PnP for instance I award my party exp at the end of each session - it would be interesting to see if that can be done in this game. Each real hour of play gets your exp tallied up or a log off command which ever comes first. ;-)

Combat Xp should be reduced if it is from a random spawn.

If combat xp is from a plot derived encounter then it should be increased by a factor determined by a Plot Point exponent. The more story line you interact with, the greater the plot point exponent is, the better the combat xp.

Of course taking time to follow story lines will slow party progression down, but should add to the overall play experiance if peeps actually take time to interact with story NPC's. Assuming the Dev's make the story NPC's capable of tiered question/answer interaction. I look forward to finding out.

Xp awards should have a variable reward scheme. Random encounters = immediate. Story/Dungeon upon completion or end of session (logout).

I really do like the idea of XP being awared end of session (log out) or end of quest. Seems a great way of capturing the traditional pnp style of play. No doubt it wont be though .....

It would be good if encounters in the wilds are truley random.... rather than lets go to the field of d00m and kill 100 orcs to get to lvl 4. Instead the field of doom checks each 30 secs for a random encounter appropriate to your EL and places that encounter within a randomised range i.e. ambush, 30ft, 50ft, 100 ft etc and the mobs arent just stood cleaning their fingernails but move to attempt to flank you, sneak attack you etc.
