Whiterose Check's in the the Two Moons Tavern

Hello all, my name is Whiterose. I have been called White Chocolate and just plain old White at times. I am sixteen turning seventeen in december. I was over at my friends house helping him search for something we needed for school and I found an old 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons Players Handbook.
I really got interested in the game and I found a link to this forum and decided to join and discuss things with people. Right now I am going to need some help making a character and filling him with necessary objects. I am going to see if I can get my friend to be a character too, maybe we can get a group together, well need a dungeon master according to the book.

So happy to be here and eager to learn.

some general info:

there is a players handbook (PHB), like you found, which is all you need to start a character. then there is a dungen master guide (DMG), which gives info on magic items and some guidelines to base the game on. it also contains the experience / reward table. then there is the monster manual (MM) with a lot of monsters that you may encounter. then there are a lot of book, MM 2, MM 3, complete warrior, complete divine, other "complete" books and countless more, as well as special premade worlds.

2nd edition is a bit old, and you'll find that most books available in for example stores are 3rd or 3.5 edition

cant help at 2nd edition at that, i only played that version once. cant help with a dungeonmaster (DM), but i know that some game stores (board games, not pc) have message boards or things like that for people to get into contact

If you want help creating a character, you might want to be a little more specific to what you're having trouble with.

You can use 3.5 edition rules legal and free at The Hypertext d20 SRD (v3.5 d20 System Reference Document) :: d20srd.org, but if you prefer second edition, you might have trouble finding people who remember how to play. Personally, I've been playing D&D for 12 years now, and I started with 2nd edition and still don't understand THAC0.

Play D&D online, 3rd edition, 4th edition, or any pen and paper game.

Well, for THAC0, you could find some help here: Carne Asada Tacos - Allrecipes ;-) I bet I'm the first person who cracks this joke...
Anyway, I remember some 2nd Edition stuff, I know Galraen does too.
But go with the advice of Syberis and read up on the SRD link. D&D 3.5 is an overall improvement.
