spells and ranged touch attacks

Hey all,

Here is my question. I know that when you fire into melee with ranged weapons, that you take -4 to your attack unless you have precise shot. My question is: how does this apply to range touched magic attacks like orb of acid? Would I need point blank shot and precise shot to fire that into melee as a wizard? If so, if I’m within 30 feet, do I get the +1 to attack/damage from point blank shot?

2ndly, I was trying to look this up myself, but I couldn’t find rules about ranged touch attacks. Where are those located, like which book and page number if you have it?

Lastly, my character has a Int score of 18. As a wizard, would he learn any extra spells per level due to his intelligence? In addition to the 2/level he automatically gets, I mean?

In every essence of a ranged touch attack, you treat it like any normal bow attack. You can use point blank shot, precise shot, or any other archery feat that doesn't modify the spell's stat block.

Not to mention, you can critical with ranged touch attacks.

cool

that's awesome. So I would add +1 to my spell damage too? And what do you go against? touch ac?

Also, do you know about the intelligence/more spells known per level thing?

for the plus one damage, I would say yes, but you might want to ask the DM.

As for Intelligence, check the front of the PHB. It'll have a huge list of what your intelligence/wisdom/charisma score is compared to how many bonus spells per day you receive.

I'll check the PHB again ASAP, but I wasn't really talking spell slots, I mean the amount of spells I auto-learn and put into my spell book per level. Normally it's just 2 of any spell that I can cast, but I wasn't sure if intelligence affected that. I'll check as soon as I can tho.

Oh, that doesn't affect it. Spells known are never affected by intelligence. And spells put down in a book are only affected by Intelligence at first level.

Like Syberis said, ranged touch attacks are Ranged Attacks in every sense, so you even get to add the +1 to damage from PBS.

If memory serves me, there's a feat you can take that let you learn spells according to your intelligence. 20 intelligence would give you 5 new spells at next level and so on. Although that feat is probably from ultimate feats or something like that.

You could always just buy scrolls. I know, not always a possibility, but the main income of new spells...
