| | My fist Pen and Paper Tonight it's gonna happen, my very first P&P!
So, if it was dying like discussed here, at least I helped a bit to preserve it.
I think I'm gonna have some trouble with the roleplaying bit. I mean, without viseualisation (sp?) and all. But I'll manage. I think it sounds strange "I grab my sword and....etc." Writing it is easy, but acting...
Perhaps you guys and girls could share your fist P&P here, just for fun.

| | Good luck
My first PnP was a bit messy, but lots of fun
We played by simplified rules, so it wasn't too complicated even though we already had one dead character after 10 minutes of play. My friend had played a thief as if he were a big, tough barbarian
Oh well, I was kind with him and got him resurrected.
(I was DMing because it was me who came up with the idea to do the game.)
Hope your play will be as fun as mine was.

| | I hope so too!
We're gonna play with the two of us and one DM. The other adventurer is the DM girlfriend who never really was into Ad&d so she hadly knows any of the rules!
I'm off in a minute. I'll post all about it tomorrow!

| | That shouldn't be too big a problem, what with you all around to teach her.
With my play, it was good because it was the first play for all of us, three of us having played BGI and II and the fourth without any clue.

| | Well, I hope you enjoy it. I'm sure you will.
My first pen-and-paper game was messy too. Although I enjoyed it, my charachters voice kept changing. Hehe..
I played as a human fighter.

| | Hope you have a good time Rob-hin.
I don't seem to have too much luck with P&P. I've become part of two online-games now, both of which were supposed to be ongoing. But they've both fallen apart after the first session. Kinda bums me out, since both times I've really looked forward to it, had a fun first session, and then not gotten to continue.
Oh well.

| | Good luck, Rob-hin.
I'm currently trying to learn the 3e rules(having only played BG/BG2/IWD up to now) and will be teaching my 'rents how to play. Then I'll be playing PnP D&D with them, with me DMing. It'll probably be a while before I'm ready to start, though. I also met a guy who's in the Gaming Club at the college I go to, and he says that if he can find enough other people, he's gonna be starting a PnP D&D game at the school. |

| | It was fun!
Our DM has done this pen and paper before, but me and his girlfriend hadn't. So he was really acting and all and we hardly knew what to say sometimes. But overall it was a succes.
My character is based on Sarevok and she is a halfling druid, so conficts are about to happen. We coudn't finish the story couse it was kinda late.
It takes some getting used to 3 ed rules, since I only know BG rules (2 ed) but I think they are better then the 2 ed. It was really strange that your AC goes up and not down. Stuff like that.

| | Ah, the memories My first game was when I was 11yrs old and I was playing a Monk from 1E AD&D. As you can tell I was 11 a long time ago. The DM didn't really want me to play, but the teacher who was moderating the schools game club made him. Anyways we were going through the "Secret of Bone Hill" or some such thing and I got killed in the very first random encounter by a stirge! A crummy STIRGE!!!
Luckly that didn't ruin my experience and I continued to play with a different group (people who wanted me to play). Now I have been playing D&D for about 21 years!
I am just glad that your first experience was a good one! Welcome to the most wonderful hobby of all!

| | The DM didn't want you to play, could explane why you died so fast. But you kept on playing for 21 (!) years, thats impressive.
Whe're goning to continue the story tommorrow, and someone is going to join us. So that could be fun. Beiing a evil fighter, I'm gonna make sure he knows his place! Yeah, watch out for my (almost) level 1 buttkicker!

| | Well, the DM at the time thought that it was his job to kill all of the characters! Most go through this at one time or another (the powergamer thing, that is). When I rolled up my character, I only rolled 3 hit points to start off with (monks had 2d4 back then). Most DMs would have let me reroll since my constitution was so low or just give everyone thier maximum roll to start off. Not this guy however, he had all of his friends playing and he saw me as an intruder. So they proceeded to play and left me to watch and wish that I could be playing
What really kept me going was the facination I had with fantasy and two made for TV movies "Archer: Fugitive of the Empire" and "Hawk the Slayer". By todays standards they were crap, but back then, to an 11 yr old kid they were magic! I wanted to do that! I wanted to be that! So I found some new friends and sort of forced them into playing. It turned out that we all loved it!
And we all lived happily ever after...

| | Yeah, the worst part was I never played a monk again... Ever
I think that after looking over the 3E rules now, I may just go ahead a play one again. They look really good! It is a shame that most of my friends don't play anymore. They have kids and stuff now...

| | | My first time role-playing was using a module from Dragon magazine. It was an adventure about some mines that had a fountain of youth and the party was supposed the have found it.
We finished the adventure, but only two out of seven people made it through. I made it with a halfling thief and another one of the fighters. I made it because I put a most of my starting points iin HS and MS, so I avoided a lot of the fights, just trying to backstab.
So that was really fun. I played AD&D 2nd edition for several years, enjoying every minute of it!
