Favorite TSR character
 

Personally, I prefer Tanis Half-Elven from the Dragon Lance Series. He was just a cool character in the series, always calm, and cool, and a great leader. But when he flipped, it was always a good read.

This might help. The TSR series of books is actually things like Dragon Lance, Forgotten Realms, Planescape, etc... They also do the AD&D games (Regardless of who owns the license)

My favourite is Gord the Rogue from the old Greyhawk books.

Close runners up are Sturm Brightblade and Harkle Harpell.

Sturm was always a character I liked. Pissed me off they killed him in Dragons of Winter Nights....

My favorite is Jander Sundstar a elven vampire.
Despite that I never read the novel, his entry makes him a very unique type of character.

I, too, liked Sturm. He showed great depth of character as he confronted his shattered Oath and Measure.

I didn't much care for Tanis, though. He reminded me too much of Luke Skywalker.

Caramon became cool as he lost his innocence in the second trilogy and actually developed depth of character.
Raistlin was as cool and deep as an all powerful mage can be.

How can you not like Tas? He was awesome, if not a bit stereotypical. I really liked him as he learned to fear for the ones he loved. Very dynamic. And a riot in Tarsis to boot!

Are Dragonlance books overall better than FR?
Since i've only read FR, my favorite character is Pwent the battlerager and his gutbuster brigade.

It comes down to taste..some like them, some don't. People have favorite writers just the same. I have read more DL books than FR, but I enjoyed both.

I think it all depsnds on the author that writes the books. I've read some crappy DL, but also some crappy FR. But it also works in the opposite.

Greyhawk was the original AD&D world and the brainchild of Gary Gygax et al. In fact, many of the entries in Monster Manual II, there several references made to environments in the Greyhawk setting. It came in a boxed set with two fold-out world maps, two books and a bunch of other crap; I still have my original edition in a box somewhere.

The wizards Mordenkanien and Bigby were natives to that world, as were some of the best adventures (Temple of Elemental Evil and Against the Giants to name two).

The first AD&D novel I ever read was Saga of Old City which featured Gord the Rogue and his ascent through a thieves' guild and adventures with the barbarian Chert and druid Curly. It was everything AD&D is supposed to be: excitement, intrigue, romance, and action. On top of that, Gygax turned out to be pretty good novelist. The second and later books in the Gord the Rogue series weren't as good, but Gord is still my all-tim all-round favourite character.

I read the first three Dragonlance books with high expectations, as everyone I knew praised the series greatly. When I finished all three books, however, I realized that they were some pretty less-than-standard works. This is just my opinion, but the writing seemed very shallow, and the character development, was too...obvious, for lack of better word. It seemed the authors were yelling at you every other sentence about Laurana growing up, or Tasslehoff maturing. And for god's sake, how many times did Tas get scared? Every major enemy made him "truly frightened", when they stress dozens of times that kender don't feel fear. Pretty much the only things I liked about the books were Fizban and Raistlin. Now that my rant is over, I can finally answer the topic question by saying that Artemis Entreri is by far my favorite TSR character.

Part of the problem for the Dragonlance Chronicles was that they were story-driven, not character-driven. That came from them being based on adventure modules, not an original idea.

Dragonlance Legends, on the other hand, was all about character--most people assume it was Raistlin, but it was really about Caramon.
