Baldur's gate information

Like I mentioned in the Baldur's Gate forum, I'm looking for infor about Baldur's Gate, especially about it's history. I post this here since it's really a d&d issue.

I'd like to make the city more real, tell a bit about it's history and find good links for side quests.
Does anybody have some good information about this city?

So far I've been useing the information from the BG walktrough here at Gamenbanshee but it's go much focussed at the game.
