| | | Advice on a new PC Alright, I've been asked to join a friends compaign today, which is moderate levels (I'll be entering at level 13). The catch, though, is that the party is anything but typical. From my understanding, we have an odd assortment of player species (half-gnome/half-goat, for instance). With this in mind, I want to enter the game as something somewhat off beat as well.
My feeling was as a two headed Ogre Barbarian. The catch is, though, I haven't the Savage Species book, nor will I have access to it until tonight, so I was hoping someone might be able to help break out the basics of what I'll need to at least get this guy started. |

| | | A 13th level Barbarian? Has the GM told you how much you have to spend on resources? What about the allowed Feats/Skills/background, etc.?
As for the two headed ogre - half ettin maybe? I'm not a fan of Savage Species, so I can't help you with the rules from that book, but if you give us some more info of the limitations the GM has placed on you, maybe we can come up with something!
Cheers,
TGHO

| | | Well, I've rolled him up. An interesting character, to say the least. 6 levels of Ogre, and 5 levels of Barbarian, with an ECL of 2. He smashes things real good.
If anyone is interested in seeing the sheet, I can easily post it. |

| | | How did you get the ECL of 2? I still have a hard time with these ECL thingies, but that sounds low. Maybe you meant 12?

I agree that only two levels is a bit low for a Ogre but that's my opinion. The LA is officially +2 so..

| | My bad, not ECL. LA Thanks Rob
Actually, we looked it up, and found no actually Level Adjustment for being an Ogre (using Savage Species). The only Level Adjustment came from having two heads.
Anyway, the character is this:
Gork and Mork
Level 6 Ogre/5 Barbarian (+2 Level Adjustment)
STR: 30
DEX: 8
CON: 24
INT: 9
WIS: 10
CHA: 8
Racial Adjustment (at level 6): +5 natural Armour, +8 STR, +6 CON, Large size, -4 INT, -4 CHA, -2 Dex, +2 STR
Second Head Adjustment: +2 HD (1d8 each), +1 Natural AC, +30 darkvision, Vorpal only takes one head, +2 CON, +2 listen/spot/search, +2 HD worth of skill progression, Improved Initiative, Combat Reflexs
HD: 4d8+5d12+77 CON = 167 (sadly, no where near max )
BAB: +8
Initiative: 3 (Improved Ini. +4 + Dex modifier -1)
AC: 25 (Mithril FUll Plate +8, Ring of Prot. +3, +6 Natural, -1 for Large, -1 for Dex)
Feats: Uncanny Dodge (2), Barbarian Rage, Improved Initiatve, Combat Reflexes, Power Attack, Cleave, Improved Critical, Trap Sense, (I won't bother listing proficencies)
And he wields a Great Club +3, which is essentially just a really, really gnarled tree |

| | If I was GM, my NPC wizards all just learnt "Charm" and "Suggestion".
Not a bad PC in all, but how come you listed a STR bonus twice under Racial Adjustment? And why does having a second head give you +1 Natural Armour? Just wondering!
Are you roleplaying him as the arguing-two headed type, or the "my two heads always agree" type?
Cheers,
TGHO

| | It's get +2 at creation, than an additional 8. I guess I should have just molded it into +10
As for the +1 Natural AC, I'm not too sure on the reasoning behind it. I would add it up to the second head allows for a greater degree of awareness, and let's the PC/Monster know whats coming. My thought, anyway.
As for all the wizards learning charm and suggestion, it's not that great an idea. We have a bard in the party with an ungodly capable fascination ability. It'd be simple to simply fascinate me back to the party.
Mind you, there is also a Ratling wizard in the party, which my two-headed ogre is also quite fond off (to the point that the Ratling rides my Ogre, and I call him George).
And the I play the two heads as dual entities. They can fight, argue, agree, delegate. It's good fun. |

Keep us posted on how he does. Sounds like an interesting game (especially with that post in the 'Harsh Fights' thread).
Cheers,

| | Well, with that in mind, you'll enjoy this little bit. My DM is such an odd ball, that he gave me an item of some interest: A collar which, when placed around a neck, allows the head to be removed, without death... Maybe my Ogre will learn to juggle... |

R. A. Salvatore has a two-headed troll in some of his recent Drizzt Do'Urden novels.
BTW... That collar, it isn't related to a hydra in any way, is it?
