I'm not familiar with pool of radiance but this character generator will do all the work for you:

thx a mill couldnt find char generating info though
actually what i wanted to know was if u construct chars or roll them.in earlier edditions u rolled dice to create a char and in that way it was unlikely to get two chars that where identical.
in pool of rad(which suposedly follows 3rd edd rules)u have 8 points base and another 25 points to distribute.
this means everyone can make identical chars imho this makes for less roleplaying
im trying to find out if i can be bothered with buying this latest edd ive been playing since the early eigthies and have bought all the books, boxes and accesories.from the basic dnd boxed set through Adnd and 2nd edd Adnd.ok i havent summed that up but we are talking atleast 2000us dollars
and the things ive seen sofar are both good and bad i guess
but somethings atleast makes no sense to me like how come a mage has more need of charisma than intelligence the only reason ive been able to think of is that if ure constructing chars no one will put points in charisma because u dont get that many advantages from it
this is why i prefer rolled characters there is no need to make up obscure uses for scores to make sure some peeps place points there
hehe ranting again but should i invest in the 3rd edd or stick with a system i love?

The pointbuy method is only one way to generate your stats. There's nothing in 3e that forces you to use that, it's only an option. It's up to the DM to decide what method that should be used for his/her campaign. If you tried the CharGen you might have noticed you could switch between different methods.

The stats however are only one part of generating the character. You need to choose skills, feats and so on. No need for kits, you can customize all you want which is one reason that I like 3e. Also the new way to multiclass makes for more diverse characters.

Why don't you buy the PHB, join a game and see for yourself.

The point buy system was in 2E, too. Anyway, to be brief, the 4d6 per stat rolling system still exists in 3E.
