I used Static Bolt to slow down his swing so I could get out of the way more easily. The curse used on him was Drown since I had NM using Frost Beam (Vine wouldn't get the benefit though it would reduce micro). He ended up chasing my CM around for awhile then decided to slug it out with my Dual Wielder (bad move since I had Rage waiting ).

Edited: it was damn annoying in Vet mode so I expect Elite to be hellish. If he hits with a glowing red axe, he gains around 20k HP (99k HP in total). Maybe my party wasn't strong enough to duke it out yet (still lvl53 at the Arena). Took me 5 minutes to kill him and got the armor from the Fire King set ^_^ (yay for effort).

Playing at merc level (first time I've played the game). In the end I sent everyone but my main character back to the inn and took him out, my char is level 37 Archer, with a lot of skill points in far shot. Lot of running and shooting, but it worked.

Hit and run really. Charge in, as soon as his weapon turns red, back away. He will not make it to hit the party. Neither with the axe nor with area attack. Repeat.

Talking

I have a 3 half-giant fighters+dryad healer+Mature Light Naid healer party so I just took him head to head and toppled him after a few boring minutes.

EDIT:a few VERY boring minutes

Went fairly easily for me using my normal party which is melee/ranged/nature/combat and drawing the ganth's attention to the melee, not by using provoke or something but just by letting the mages/ranger use long distance and attacking with the melee unit. If done correctly the ganth uses his regen power only on the melee unit, and for some reason(dunno if it was melee resistance) he only gained about 1/7 of his total health with every strike. Just continuous attacks and he was down in no-time (20 secs)

this worked on merc/vet/elite so it should work for you too

Unusual approach to kill Ganth

I've just reached the Ganth at the water tower in elite mode. My characters are levels 89 and 90 and the Ganth is 91. In previous runs it's not been problematic, but this time I'm playing WTHOUT a ranged character (except when required for side quests) - my two Combat Mages face resistance to his attacks and my 3 melee are constantly at risk of being caught by his red axe. The only character able to attack from a distance with any effect is the Nature Mage, using ice attacks only (I wanted to see how to handle the Ganth without immobilising him with Clinging Vine). What's more, the periods between each activation of his special recover power are down to 2-3 seconds. Hit and run worked to a point but I was forced back to Kalrathia, chased by the Ganth .... sometimes running faster than my characters! At the walls of the city I used Chant of Power (instant recharge of all powers) and by hitting him 3 or 4 times with the instantly recharging powers it took him out in about 30 seconds. If I hadn't been forced back to the town I'd never have thought of using this techinque. Anyone else found any unusual approaches ... ?

Here is how i beat the ganth, each time. Im a combat mage, so i debuff him with infect, then i blasted him with skullspray until he screamed uncle and died. I think its time to play DS2 again.

Telling people to not give up and retreat to the forums so soon isnt offtopic =/ anyone who cant figure out how to beat a guy so easy is probably too young to play the game.
