DS 2 savegames don't save all items

DS II, 2.20.0.3822

Installed and then patched; I can start the game, and save/reload works but deletes items predictably and periodically.

Ex 1 -- Drevin equips Mercenary Gloves (found in barrels after starting new game). I save. I then exit and continue. Drevin no longer has gloves.

Ex 2 -- After talking with Celia in the jail, she gives me equipment. I grab it and equip it. I save, exit, and continue. I now have no equipment.

I've noted other items in Drevin's pack disappearing also, but I thought Ex 1 was an outrageous enough example to get some debugging going on. Note that *some* of his items remain.

I've Googled a bit and searched this site, but couldn't find a discussion on the topic.

Just to be clear, I have over 20 years programming AND gaming experience -- I'm not a newbie, so this isn't just a *d'oh* moment. I tried a lot of obvious combinations of debugging runs, and I did rtfm and Google until I hit entire pages of references to languages I don't speak.

To be clear, I know that I will 'continue' at the last "savepoint". I also know that (if I die) I may have to return to my corpse or use necromancy to get my stuff back. I am unclear if DS2 strips my equipment if I save and exit (as opposed dying and using the hidden save games to retrieve my belongings). However, as my debugging efforts are at startup before much movement, IF DS2 "respawns", my equipment should be right next to me. Also, as I mentioned, in the tutorial this happens only with Drevin -- items that disappear on Drevin don't disappear on my main character.

This is a 1-2 year old Intel-component (2.8GHz) with nVidia that plays Neverwinter Nights and DS 1 fine (so far).

I don't understand why you'd be losing your equipment. That shouldn't be happening. All I can suggest is that you play a little farther into the game, and see if you continue to lose your equipment once you start picking up things that aren't handed to you.

AVE CAESAR, MORITVRI TE SALVTANT !

Maybe you should look into the your save game folder (something like C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\My Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2\Save\SinglePlayer\"main character name").

Sometimes you have a file named "main character name".ds2party.tmp whose "Date Modified" (View-Details) is before than your last of your save ("main character name".ds2party) game, so, you should delete it. You should do this operation when you are completely off the game. I encountered the same problem with DS2 BW also where it seems that this bug appear more often.

Well the example you have given is a mandatory part of the game that DOES dump your entire inventory, then you start anew with what Ceilia gives you in the jail. I know I was like "WTH?" at first two but look at the circumstances, you are a PRISONER. You think they let prisoners walk around with swords? Nuh uh. If you ever played D&D or NWN custom modules you'd see other examples of this happening. Enjoy!
