Don't feed the animals (or at least be really careful.)
I learned a valuable lesson today. Be careful what you feed your pets. The game will gladly allow you to feed them quest items. Such as, oh, say the soulstaff required for the act III quest involving The Kalrathian Nexus. My pet dragon loved it! Tastes like chicken. Screws you if you haven't completed the quest yet. Standing at the nexus, and invoking the chant with your dragon, with the staff in his stomache, doesn't work.
