BW: Nerfed melee big time

Wow, is it me? or did BW expasion really nerf the melee class? I mean, my shielded tank went from 400 armor to 250, I mean come on. Granted I have lower level armor, Lorethal's, but I really like the look and with the 400 I had in DSII, I could still keep it, but now I think that I am going to have to upgrade. Well, my rant is over and I guess the shielded tank was way too powerful because during merc, he never took damage from melee, lol. I just hate it when I am forced to become less powerful, even if it does balance the game.

I'm curious what you all think. That is if BW nerfed the shielded tank skills too much, not enough, or just right.

Get dirty!

Well in your case you also could ask: Why has GPG made my char looking ugly now?

Because the item requirements of Lorethal set should make evident that it must become obsolete anywhere during act3 of mercenary mode. Thus wearing it much longer without suffering notable damage was the consequences that some item bonuses and skill benefits were too generous in v2.0-2.2 and that you probably were over-leveled too (compared to the monsters fighting against).

I'm sorry that you are forced now to look for another equipment, but even with or without BW its a fact that you can't use sets forever. Sooner or later they will expire and everybody must find something new - for some people this is annoying, some (most?) others are inspired to play on.

Generally i like all blanacing efforts provided by a patch resp. newer version, however i agree that GPG has gone here a quite unpopular way. Instead of reducing some/many values they also could increase everything else (inclusive monster's damage) - well same result at the end but such an inflation method would pat player's improving-intentions for his char stats much more.

Actually i would hope GPG had the courage to go much further, eg. some powers had to be reblanced too and exp curve/calculation aswell - while you level rather slow close towards level 100 you get levels too easily at the beginning (please make a post if you defeat once Valdis at/below level 40 without running away from monsters ).
And even if the situation has become some better with BW (i like the Surgeons ) - veteran and elite mode are generally still no real challenge for a conversant player...

What you say is true. I do look foward to getting new equipment, but having a cool looking character balanced with fighting power is how I find enjoyment in the game. I don't know why GPG made the coolest looking armor set so low level?? It's funny because I have revamped my armor with vistera(if that is how you spell it?) and the maestral armor and find the results quite satisfactory, both aesthetical and economical.

I fought the first surgeon at level 50, and I felt that it was too easy, lol; but, I switched my powers to single target damage and invulnerability. I feel that the nerfed armor truely only manifests itself when in melee with mobs. When eight to ten enemies are hacking away at my provoked tank, thats when I feel the nerfed armor.

It is funny that the ranger damage wasn't nerfed. Deru, for me at level 50 with the fallen soldier set, crits for around 1200 and her single target power does up to 13500. I mean, I nailed the first surgeon with that twice and he was all done for. This is because I am leveling far too fast. They should be making the mobs at higher levels or should have made it so the enemiy levels reflect your own. This might have helped balance the game better.

It's a shame about the lack of variety of cool looking armour all round but particularly for the melee character... and half giants, they really need to look dangerous and well protected ... dress a half giant up in lots of stuff and he looks effeminate and stupid.
I must admit i cheat to hell using loads of mods, i'm amazed they all work together but have enjoyed using darkelfs armour, weapons and trinkets mods which use the set item (and others) graphics and character level stats ... although they seem rather overpowered for your level they do spice up my game and give a huge assortment of weapons and armour to choose from.
