skills and abilities increasing

The question of how leveling up affects your character has been posed here recently. Most of you probably know what will follow and in addition, I have a couple of other question here for the group.

strength - As your strength goes up, first and obvious, it allows you to use larger weapons and armor. I've also noticed it will increase your total damage. Not sure if it also affects your %age of 'to hit'. It will raise your HP's

Dex - This will increase your armor or defense as this ability goes up. I think dex helps with your HP's

Int - I have seen no plus side to intelligence increasing. However, I only have zed as a nature mage. Otherwise, I've three people on melee (myself, gyorn, and gleorn) and one archer Ulona. Does this help increase spell damage, range or duration??? Raising int. definitely adds mana points

Melee - I've got guess this definitely increases your chances to hit as it goes up. Not sure if it affects total damage or HP's

Ranged - same as melee

Nature - adds total mana points, makes spells more effective (at least with damage, not sure about range and duration)

Combat - same as nature

Most of this is info you players know. I just wanted to post it to the forum to see how much more information people could add. It would be nice to have tables to understand further how increasing these abilities helps the characters. I think the game is fun, albeit repetitive, and will hold my interest for a while. My biggest gripe lies with the documentation and the lack of explanation with regard to game mechanics.

Looking forward to contributions. thanks.

It's like this I think:

- Str - life, ability to wear better items, more melee damage;
- Dexterity - (slightly) improves chances to hit, improves defense rating, allows you to use better ranged weapons;
- Int - more mana and it allows you wear some specific equipment that requires int, like staves and robes (I like the pointy hats). Plus it allows you to prettend that you are smarter than the rest.

- Melee skill - increases chance to hit in melee combat;
- Range skill - increases chance to hit in ranged combat;
- Combat and nature magic skill - allows you to use better spells or old spells at higher level.

That's about it. Cheers

@Wyvern,

nice avatar and welcome to GB.

You've rehashed a lot of what I mentioned. Let me ask specifics from here?

Do you think added Intelligence will increase spell damage, range, or duration?

Do you know of any info available online that would break down the specific mechanics of gaining abilities and skills?

Opinion: Do you think this would have made a difference to include such detailed info in the documentation? Personally, I do.

Intelligence does not raise the power/duration of your spell, only your level in the magic in question does.

Intelligence, Strenght, Dexterity, they all raise your Health and Mana a little. Try equiping an item that raise an attribute, it will raise both your health and mana a little.

Hello again,

Sorry for taking me so long to reply. Been busy... working... gaming

Thanks for the welcoming, been around for a while but mostly for checking the various forums - not posting much.

Now, about the specific questions:

> Do you think added Intelligence will increase spell damage, range, or duration?

I belive it does not (neither damage, range or duration - all of them increase with the skill level). However, this is based only on my experience, not on a document or web page somewhere. I'd love to see a site with this kind of details.

Also, even it that would sound as a natural effect, it would not be fair in respect with the ranger class which is IMHO very seriously underpowered and which doesn't get damage pluses from added dexterity (or strength).

> Do you know of any info available online that would break down the specific mechanics of gaining abilities and skills?

No, not really... I've been looking quite hard for details like this but I didn't find any.

> Opinion: Do you think this would have made a difference to include such detailed info in the documentation? Personally, I do.

Oh, I think it would make a huge difference. As I said, I'd love to see this kind of details. You know, questions like: should I use my lvl 10 lightning or my lvl 40 zap (the numbers might not be correct) would be answered without having to check all spells in my 4 spellbooks every time I do a level up... plus a lot of other details.

But the thing that hurts the most (for me at least) is the very serious underpowering of the rangers... at around level 65 you get stuck... the best weapon I could find using all tricks I could think of (not PKing anyone, don't worry - mostly doing the underground temple in the last city about 50 times) is a 248 unique xbow. It takes forever to kill with that thing, and the lvl ups go really slow. There can't even be a comparison with my melee fighter that uses a 412 hammer... I even found a 1 haved 3xx sword for him which he can use in just two lvl ups or so...

Well, I hope they do smt about it. (Sorry if getting a bit of topic with this, but I just had to say it )

Cheers!
