I think ranged skills increase your probability to hit.

The patch for DS is not out yet, it's due to be out this week.

As far as I know, Ranged Skills is the variable that affects the To Hit percentage, as C Elgans said, but only for Ranged Weapons. There are many sites that link to mods. Check out Planet Dungeon Siege for a large list of siegelets and mods (including mine! )

The better bows (both magically enhanced and normal) are what increase damage. But, you can't get the better bows with out high dexterity. So that's were dexterity to damage comes in.

isn't like wat u mention above abit sad...
cause strenght and melee skills increase melee damage.
and combat and nature magic skills increase their magic damage.
but ranged damage jus depend on watever weapon ur using...
isn't there any ranged weapon that is good, fast, hits hard and follow u all the way through a single player game. it gets me sad to c my frontline fighters increasing in damage while my archer stay behind and s**ked.

And nature magic takes forever to lvl up.
i really hate it. tis game seen nice @ 1st.
but slowly it jus irrate u more n more. grrr.......

sorri sorri......
didn't knew how to keep those disappointment down.

No, it all lines up the same, its consistant in that sense.

Dex gives better bows
strentgh gets better weapons & armor
and Intelligence better spells.

With the addition of Merk, I have basically dedicated 1 character to archery and she does great damage at a distance. In fact, all my characters are well versed in bows insuring that the vast majority of enemies are sufficiently soften (if not destroyed) at a distance. But that is my strategy.

Now nature magic is a tad disappointing at first, in that you don't get as much credit for healing characters as you do killing enemies and since nature magic is not intended to be combat magic most nature magic offence spells are pretty weak and short ranged like zap and shock. But look at it this way, this makes building up nature magic users more challenging. You have to strategizes more. For example. My magician (merk) was getting behind (in my opinion) in nature magic development because I was using him primarily for healing (healing hands & healing wind) so I looked to see what nature magic spells I had available that dished out sufficient (not superior, just sufficent) damage at range. Ta Da, ice shards. So I have ice sards in one slot and healing wind in the other. My archer is also the "back up" nature magic user and so I have her slots with healing hands and transmute.

I am still really really enjoying the game. I generally don't finish RPGs because I get bored or irratated a quarter of the way in. But DS has kept me interested. Even in frustrations, I'll find myself pondering what if I did this or that, would that build up this stat or that stat.
I like the lack of plot, since I find most RPG plots these days to be morbid, demonic, and offensive and the dialogs to be hit or miss, stupid, or an excuse to through in useless cut scenes. Sort of like those goof ball romance scenes found in action movies.
I like the development model. The ability to change class easily. Some fine tuning for nature magic stats and some clarifying notes for developing skills verses class and it would be perfect for me. The seemless environment is so totally refreshing and immersing. I get so sick and tired of load screens every ten seconds and DS doesn't have that. Of course I was a Gauntlet fan and DS reminds me of an advanced version of Gauntlet so maybe that's it. Anyway. Enjoy the good stuff because there is a lot of it in DS.
