Question DS LOA 1.5 Do I need a Patch to fix mules?

I have been playing DS LOA for several months, but I haven't been able to get the mules from Raab at the start, or get the second Tragg from the zurask besieged city. Do I need a patch to make these game threads work properly? I tried downloading the DS patch to version 1.11 but it doesn't take. The patch instructiona say that I don't need a patch if I have DS LOA. This is confusing to me because several years ago I played this game and I needed a patch to make this stuff work. IS DS LOA defective beta as shipped?
I would appreciate it if someone could help a creaky old codger like me. I am barely on the internet on a falling apart laptop.

Ajschwaiger, I clearly remember being able to buy only one tragg, at the Illicor market. This is frustrating, because the trader has a second one there, and you'd expect to be able to buy it. But I don't think this is a bug in the game, I think this is just the way it's supposed to be.

Fear not, however, because you can pick up a second tragg at the half giant camp, a bit later in the game.

I was never able to get mules right at the start, and I don't remember this Raab guy. But I suggest that it is unlikely that the game would want to give you a mule right away; you tend to acquire these things as you go along. So I don't think this is a bug either.

If you prefer mules to traggs, don't they sell mules in Illicor, next to the traggs? Not sure, because I always wanted the traggs.

As for the patch, I think LOA was considered a patch, of sorts, and the attitude may have been: we don't need to "patch the patch." There might be unofficial patches, and I know there are mods. But I don't think you need a patch.

Smile LOA mules and traggs

Sparrow,
Thanks for replying about my LOA patch. I wanted to get ALL the mules and traggs, because I try to max out the game. I kill the monsters over and over again by leaving them their last few HPs and returning 10 min later, and also by shopping each location every ten mins as well. I post an NPC just outside the refresh area to do the shop thing. I always end up with mules/traggs loaded with stuff I MIGHT use sometime, and then start making piles of items on the ground, which stay as long as I return someone to the area within the 10 min refresh.
My aim is to get the disco hat for the 50% piercing hit bonus, which levels up SO much faster, and then kill off the monsters I have left behind. I haven't tried any mods yet, can you recommend any?
I bought DS 2 and its expansion, but I won't be able to play it until I get a new computer. I am running an old notebook with PIII 800 Mhz and 256Mg RAM. The choker is the 8 Mgb video, which limits playability.
Any suggestions you might have for me would be appreciated.

Thanks for the franks and beans = Ben Franklin quotes
