Chars "trapped" in dungeon room, chap 2

Help! This totally bites.... and I'm only on Chapter 2! There is a dungeon room in the center of a huge open area (also in a dungeon) in what I believe is the wiscern cross area (its full of spiders if that helps). Anyway, in this one room in the center, theres a switch/handle thing outside the room that opens the gate to get in. Theres also one inside, as i later found. Somehow I hit the one inside, while we were inside, and now the gates closed, and all my chars are stuck inside. Is there a cheat, or is this a bug, or something? Hitting the inside switch doesn't open the gate. There is also a healing shrine and a mana shrine inside too. Nothing I do seems to work, and I really really don't want to lose my chars!

When you first enter the room and lower the lever there you will be attacked by a few spiders and for the moment you cannot use the lever again, after a while you can use the lever again to open the gate, at least this is what i did and the gate was once again open.

The Western Cross dungeon was the coolest dungeon. It was setup really well with spiders crawling from everywhere.
I went through the ice cavern and another dungeon and they sucked. Is that the only dungeon in the whole game that was setup well?
