Question what a item worth

hi im kinda new to dungeon lords (ce) and havent beat the game yet but i am wondering what is defense worth? i have a crimson plate but am still wearing imperial armor because I dont know if 7 def is worth the parry bonus of the imperial armor, i also have dragon shoulders but am still wearing dynasty shoulders because of the same reason. im a lvl 29 thrall wizard/maurader and any help on figuring out whats worth what would help me a bunch. I have been playing diablo2 for quite some time and the items of dungeon lords just look the same stats wise to me.

armor vs parry

most here will say high armor the best, but thats only once u start wearing plate, early on parry better to have to avoid as many hits as u can.at lvl 31 shadowlord i have 91 armor and 55 parry, oh and i try not to take them over 100 because in game bug has some stats revert back to 1 once they hit 100,i figure best just not to risk it. depending on gear i wear i can take armor over 100 easy if i wanted.

hope that helps

still confused

so defense is better than parry? is that what your saying. if defense is better than parry how much parry per defense is needed to counter the lack of defense? also how much does 1 point increase on wepon damage matter? is it more beneficial to have a long reach wepon than 1 with more damage? i noticed that polearms are longer than swords and do around the same damage but is the reach worth the slow animations? right now im on a paladin/wizard and im going to wear deathlord armor when i get to the tomb of souls but what wepon should i shoot for(for when im not using magic)? what is a good combination of rings ammys and trinkets to wear (excluding the ring of protection)?

Once you are able to wear heavy armor, it is better to have higher defense stats, instead of sacrificing for parry. Until then, the increase that some medium and light armors might give in defense over parry isn't worth it.

As far as weapon speed vs. reach vs. power, that just depends on your strategy:

If you are going head to head against a massive hoard, you know that you will be fighting at close quarters, so you'll want to use something with more speed, then power, but reach is of no use. (light/medium weapons)

If you are head to head against a single ogre, you'd probably want power, then reach, and speed is devalued. (heavy weapons)

In the Shadow Temple, if you choose to fight the stone guardians in the wind-step room (and who wouldn't?), you'd want reach, then power, and have no use for speed. (poles)

Rings should first compliment your immediate situation. A ring that gives you cold protection won't help against fire drakes. Beyond that, any boost in parry/speed/power is welcome. Use trinkets to compensate for stats that are lacking.
