I haven't played every possible build so its hard to say. One thing is for sure that you are going to be stuck in Ulm for awhile so spells are nice (there are even some fires) but melee is going to be the most important. You also need healing/cure poison pots/crystals. There are an insane number of poisonous things so bring a lot of cure poison pots. Then bring some healing pots to start with but your enemies will be dropping them too.

I would want (fight moon beasts to achieve this but first get your 2nd tier cause moon beast makes fargrove cut off)

Str 50
Dex till it gets to be too costly
Int this should already be high since beginning of game if you plan for efficiency
Agi till it gets to be too costly
Vit ""

get both 2nd tier classes if possible
arcane high enough to kill trash with blast nova + some blast nova books
able to equip the best weapon you have found
"""""""""""""""""" some medium armor at least

Spoiler

Big Battles

Immediately entering you fight a ton of guards and archers. have some magic to win this battle (poison cloud, blast nova, summon, etc)

Fathien elders or whatever - they are pretty tough they dual wield and have guards to help them. (Fireballs and MM to toast guards rapid style so you don't get overwhelmed, healing pots, good summon - untested, poison cloud - untested, tornado - untested; elder seems immune to cold). I just killed the guards then potted the elder to death but you will need good melee and enough vitality to make it work.

Trash tomb scorpions - go go cure poison and blast nova

Wraith guys and skeletons - blast nova and healing

Ulm

Im a mage/adept and soon to be an enchantress. i have a female elf as my race, but i do have a good melee weapon in the sword of flame. and i have an elven venom bow as my ranged attack. i have shrieking star, freezing touch, magic missile, fireball, fireburst, burning hands as my arcane spells, solar ray and i think electricity for offensive celestial, many of the lowlevel nether spells, and runestrike, rune armor and spitting shield for rune magic. my stats are around 25-30 range with honor being slightly higher. any suggests?

I managed ULM with a rogue/mage/sorceror so I think you can do it with your character. Mine was a lizard guy and DID have high 60ish strength/dex which is a good melee character. I also destroyed ULM with a male elf Marauder/Sorceror (was my best character since I made him Wizard and spellfire and dual wield are great).

The challenge is to beat ULM with a lower strength elf that early in the game when you don't have insane amounts of books/crystals. Although if you exploit the stupid economy of the game with high bargain/honor and buy 100s of whatever books/crystals you want then you can destroy ULM.....

I also have not discovered all the tricks of spells. I know some good arcane spells but only have managed nether for distractions summons and black bhaal blade. Celestial I only use ward of fire and crystal of time. Rune I don't bother with. The reason is that there are a lot of good arcane spells and these fill up most of my number buttons. I think I used MM (for wraiths and ghost beings), blast nova (my main staple; much better than other novas since you don't get dazed for long after casting eg fire nova does much more damage but you can buy 2 blasts for less money and cast them in the same amount of time), fireball (trees and area effect damage), ice blade (early in the game before winter dagger since I dual wielded), black blade of bhaal, summon X (whatever I had a lot of and was appropriate for the difficulty), shards of ice (used in combination with tornado), tornado (freeze with ice while tornado eats away at them...used to kill wandering drakes....in case of 2+ drakes just spam blast nova), cataclysm (kill supertrees and panic button), freeze (not usually hot buttoned)

First off save before entering ULM and do not overwrite that slot.

Second decide on your 2nd tier classes and talk to the guild leader to get quests for that class. (You might be unable to do all of them eg fargrove cut off or need a trip to skuldoon)

Third if you want to give it a try do a reasonable amount of preparation (buy healing potions/crystals and cure poison...stock up on books/crystals/nether ingredients) then just try it out. If you get stuck just go back to your save.

If you don't want to risk losing go to the moon beast island after purchasing the most durable (heaviest) armor you can manage. Kill moon beasts and level up armor/str until you can equip the armor. Then just fight moon beasts until the armor is about to fall apart. You can defeat them by retreating to the center stone thing and meleeing. Another tactic is to backflip up the center stone thing and kill them ranged. A third strategy is to attract 3-4 moon beasts (you should be able to take 1-2 just melee) and go into the water and then kill ranged.

When you spend adv points keep in mind that the purpose is to get 2nd tier classes and to maximize power in ULM. Don't raise dexterity over 60 without careful thought or you might hit the strike bug with gear and stat bonuses from quests. I am a believer in a high str but that is rough for a female elf so you might not get to do that.

Its time to come home when it takes several moon beasts to raise ranks in your desired ability.

(assuming you are going with the class combination I mentioned)

Provided you have many firebursts - go for your battlemage class first. The mage guild master in the swamp will let you quest for the battlemage. (..do the battlemage quest and then return to the arcane guild master in the swamp.)

(Now start with Claudius's suggestion.)

Then go to the island in the middle of the lost lake at far north west (aka moonbeast island) with some heavy plate mail purchased from the ariendale weapons vendor. Hopefully you also have many healing potions/spells.

Do some leveling against the Moonbeasts in your armor using your sword.. your back should be facing the parapet at the celestial shrine. Your face should be facing the valley with the ridge on your left view and the mound and the bay on your right view. Place your character right between the columns of the shrine waiting for moon beasts to appear. ALWAYS look down that valley to keep the Moon beasts spawning correctly. (..you can of course increase the monster spawn rate in your options setting if you wish more moonbeasts.)

THEN go to Ulm. (..after having first rested to replenish all your arcane/celestial/rune spells.)

Note that because you have already started the "Way of the Tiger", that you can't yet quest for (and receive) your Enchantress class. Basically Elvithra is indisposed until you find here son in Ulm (which is why she won't give you the quest until you have found him.

Unhappy enchantress quest completed, but dont have it as active class

I whupped that sorceress (whatshername), and completed the quest, but enchantress isnt an active class yet. and i cant go back to fargrove bc captain okatta has the city on lockdown. (BTW, i got the quest for enchantress from sister dhara. but... until i get the argalia, i cant get back to fargrove for dhara to initiate me to that class, and elvithra wont do it either, cause the apothecary is closed. ) this is my dilemma. and i dont have any savefiles from before the lockdown, either. so i cant go back and get blastnova. i do have a moonstone and have fought many moonbeasts to farm exp. and adv. . i did get str to 50, and im just wandering around to get more grimshields so i can sell them to the arindale weapons dude . and im gonna check rianne the wiccan's shop to see if she has blastnova.

Blast nova is not essential. When I played I probably had 5-10 books meaning that they were gone soon. Mainly you need some bag of tricks to tip heavy battles in your favor. A few guards at a time you should be able to take. Blast nova is nice for when you are surrounded by a lot of trash enemies, but like I say it wouldn't have made much difference because at that point in the game you would have few BNs anyhow. By the end of the game it might be your best friend and you spend whatever gold you can on it

PS I originally bought blast novas as anti bee and fungus supply and then discovered the beauty

I just cast a few 'summon beast' spells to distract the Fathien Elites, and got thru ok. but i did die once. my stats are pretty high, so it wasnt too much of a loss.

-you should have been casting poison cloud.. then you wouldn't have died.

Anyway, good luck with the game and enjoy.. (and of course remember to use the superb gamebanshee walk through when necessary.)
