Trial of Elders

Hello.. I can't see a way to get through the trial by the elders in Erindale. I've made it to the area where there are fire pits all over the place and symbols on the floor. Now i'm trapped there, i can't get back to the room with the walkway's over the water. The dead elf creatures are all over the place. Any help would be great.. Thanks
