Question stuck in dungeon realm

Hey gang,
I made it to the dungeon realm and fought through a couple portals but now am stuck in one section (which by this site's map I think is the one with gates 4a, 7a and 8) but cannot go farther. I have been all over this section and the one entry gate remains open, but the other two gates remain closed. I've killed countless gazers, succubi, and the flying devils (forget their names) and even a couple cacodemons. But I cannot seem to find a way out of here. I am building up my EX points, but would like to move on. One thing, the first time I approached one of the closed gates Volgar's voice came on and told me I was pretty lucky but now I was in deep trouble and he sent a host of enemies after me. I ran around and evenutally killed them all, but still can't find a way out. Has anybody else run into this problem?
Thanks, Quindaka

The exit from the island you're on is at #8. But it looks like something broke for you. What happens sometimes is that demons load in or behind the walls at the gate, and if you don't have any way to kill them (such as with an area spell) then you're stuck. Hopefully you have a saved game that you can go back to.

Thanks. In fact, I have encountered a couple enemies behind the locked gates and have killed at least a couple. So when exactly do the gates open? Does the fact that there are enemies behind the gate preclude it from ever opening?

The gates will open after you kill all the necessary baddies. So if some of them are behind walls or gates, then you still need to kill them to open the gates. If you cannot reach them to kill them, then the gates will never open.

Thumbs up done and done!

Thanks for the help. I reloaded a previous saved game and when I approached the gate I turned around and backtracked toward the entry gate. I invoked Divine Intervention for some help and began picking off the army of bad guys. Eventually I retreated to the entry gate and, once inside, was able to beat up the cacodemons with ranged attacks because they wouldn't come in past the open gate. Once I got back to the other gate it was open and I made my way to the final battle. That, too, was relatively easy. Wielding the No-Dachi of Winter sword, I just kept freezing the last bad guy and beat him to a pulp, hardly taking any damage.
I had fun!!!!!
