official 1.4 update

it seems like all of us are getting the old shuck and jive with regards to the official release of the official 1.4 update. no i,m not trying to bash anyone i am just having issues with the unofficial 1.4. after uninstalling and reinstalling following all the directions as to how to properly install all the patches i still don,t have the option of saving a game. i guess my system must be corrupt or something because i have sent my last save game to another person who had no problem playing it and saving at will. when i hit escape to bring up the save game screen all i get on the left side of the save box is a black block. i can type in a title for the save game but when i save it nothing happens. if anyone out there in the forum can offer some technical advice or possibly a cure for this problem please let me know. sincerely oldcodgergamer6. ps sorry if this post is too long
