nauselom

Talk about frustrating.

I place the second last shadow stone in the statue and nauselom appears again. The relic cannot yet be retrieved until Nauselom is defeated one more time.

This time Nauselom's health rapidly regenerates. When I get close to inflicting enough hit points he teleports and when I get near him again he is at full health.

I cannot defeat him.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a possible bug?

I think you have to defeat him four or five times, but only on the last round do you have to kill him.

Each time you get another stone, which you place in a statue until the pentagram is complete. Sometime after the pentagram is complete, you can get the relic which you use to kill him.

I have not read the walkthrough, so I'm not sure if you have to do a certain amount of damage to him in the first rounds, or if you just have to wait for him to run through his list of summoned characters.

In any case I used the following method which wa a little tedious, but worked -- note my character is fairly weak.

Just run around the pentagon which surrounds the center, and keep running. The summoned monsters will either kill each other or just disappear. Face in just long enough to fire arrows, but be sure to keep running. Hit nauselom whenever you can, but above all don't stop running that path. The magic balls will miss you.

Eventually, the stone will appear, so you place it in the statue. When the pentagram is complete, you will notice that the smoke around the relic is gone, so get it and equip it as your primary weapon.

In the fight to kill nauselom, wait until the summoned monsters are decreased in number, then start taking hits at nauselom. Always try to get him from the side, never the front -- he will get you first. As soon as you get in a good hit, save the game. He heals too rapidly for you to loose time.

I recommend you use two save game slots, and alternate, because it is possible to save in an impossible situation.

The following 'trick' helped me a lot: If you enter inventory mode (E), your celestial magic mana will continue to accumulate -- go off and watch tv or somthing for a while, and you will get all your celestial magic back. Also in inventory mode, the spells that paralyze you -- ice, etc. will dissipate. You can take a heal potion while still in inventory mode.

So my final battle was like this: Run around the pentagon, duck in and whack nauselom hard, run toward one of the statues, and save. Do it again. And again. If anything you get hit with stops you, enter inventory mode, let it dissipate, take a heal potion, and keep on going. For serious trouble, or if you go very long without a hit, just reload.

One of the most difficult, and gratifying, dungeon fights I've ever had.

Easy peezy japaneezy. If you have celestial magic use the crystal ward of ice. That'll keep you from taking too much damage from his ice spells. Don't worry about the summoned minions, he'll kill them himself for the most part. I did this relic quest last so I would have a stronger character and, KEY PART!, the shield of retribution. The shield will reflect his magic back at him. He can't be damaged by ice or fire, but the purple magic balls can hurt him back. Celestial lightning, fire burst, magic missile and shrieking star will also damage him. Going toe-to-toe melee isn't recommended unless you have a bunch of health/health potions/healing crystals.

If he's healing up when he teleports, you probably either have the last stone already and didn't notice picking it up or its around somewhere. To stop him from healing you need to use the relic on him (Super Pole of Divinity or whatever it is in the middle of the room).

You can also use the rune sanctuary spell. A few of those and he won't do squat to you.

How many shadow stones are there? I need to get into the Shadow Ruins, but I don't know how!

Help.

There's only one stone outside the ruins. So if you used it and then left the ruins, there isn't any way to get back in, and your only option is to load an earlier game.

This to me was the toughest fight in the game. In hindsight getting the shield relic before doing this one would have made it much easier. But I usually would run the relics straight to Talendor like a nice little hero and not actually use them in the game. (well before the final fight at least) And as it turned out, I got the shield 4th right before I went to rescue the chick in the maze.
