Moonstones & Moonbeasts

I've read in the walkthrough and on this board that you can get moonstones after killing moonbeasts. First off, I don't know what a moonbeasts looks like, maybe I have seen them but did not identify them as such. Can they be found most anywhere in the game ?
Presently I am in the Naga temple.

Moonbeast looks like blue colored lion.
You can find them only at the big island in Lost Lake.
