The game is bugged to the top so save often, all those small and big bugs are a nuisance. So maybe you can try a previously saved game?
In case it would be too much you can hex edit your way out, but I'm not hex expert, so I suggest you ask 'George K' how to do it properly.

Never, ever get into a fight when a message pops up saying "Lock". You're standing next to the lock and it will activate when you hit Shift or whatever your action key is.

Since you're still in Fargrove, just start over and in a matter of minutes you're ready to go again.
