Two Rules of changing coordinates;

1. you cannot go from inside dungeons, buildings, etc. to an outside location.

2. you cannot go from outside to any inside location.

You can however go from one point to another while inside, or while outside.

did you try to delete the modified file and rename the gameXX.bak to gameXX.sav. My editor makes renames the orignal file to gameXX.bak each time you save it. If you have saved (with the editor) only once since the error began, then you can replace the .sav file with the .bak. Otherwise, you'll have to figure out the coordinates that you were at before within the dungeon.

NOTE***Worst case scenario*** Using a hex editor modify the byte that is 56,467 bytes from the end of the file. This value should NOT currently be zero in the game file that you are able to load. Changing this to zero will put you on the world map. From here you can modify your position again. I have changed the way that the new editor works and you get a warning if you saved game is not on the world map.

Let me know how it works.

Missing the samurai pants, Galdyron's Horn, barbtongue blade, warding ring, blade dancer ring, moonstone, several weapons. I am in Fargrove at the time.

I agree. It is a nice editor. I used it in the Trial of the Elders and started out with something small, upgrading my chainmail to demon mail and an xp boost.

As to the bugs that I've seen. I tried adding spells but it didn't work. It seems to randomly add points to my skills and I'm missing equipment also.

The first time I used the editor, it bumped my Medium Weapons from 5 to 22 and my Archery went up to an 8 but my Galdryn's Horn and Devil Dust disappeared. I went back in later because I needed the dust and it figured it was too far to go back so I readded the Horn and the dust but my Medium Weapons changed to 17. I've since completed the Battlemage and Paladin quests but when I got back to Arindale, my Inn key was gone. I went back in for that and my Demon mail and Elven Spirit Bow disappeared, hehe.

I can see it in the editor. On the items page, I have my list of equipment then two blank lines and then a final piece of equipment... and it seems stable too. I resaved in another spot, loaded that save game into the editor and the same two lines (my mail and bow) were blank.

Wow, it sounds like I have some major problems in the program! Are you running 1.4 or 1.5(CE)? I have only been able to test on 1.5 myself.

It's 1.5 CE. There does seem to be a pattern to it. I stayed in the same place, just outside the Temple in Arindale and saved in three different places. Each time I loaded into the editor, the same lines seemed to be missing. I then ran back to Fargrove, mainly to finish the Erlinmir quest because I lost the flask trying to get back the Arindale Inn key but I couldn't replace it because it's not in the editor. When I got back to Fargrove, I checked the save and saw a similar pattern of blank lines in the items list.

I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase so I won't try to guestimate the problem but there does seem to be a pattern of sorts.

Oh, if it helps, I have DL loaded on my D drive but the editor alerts me that DL hasn't been installed on my machine. I can get to the save files easily enough but it's another detail that might help you.

1.5 really? Can you, please, email me a copy of the affected saved game file at dungeonlord@logicse.com? I have a copy of a V1.4 game file that someone else sent, but I don't have 1.4 installed anymore, which makes difficult to validate the problem. The Arindale Inn key is item #259 and is on the list of the newest version of the editor.

This problem indicates some confusion in your registry. This editor checks the DL registry entries (specifically "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Un install\{F41D7749-D973-42E7-BD80-64309766C39E}" key) for the value "InstallLocation" which should contain the full path to the install location for DL. If this does not exist then the editor is confused and believes that the game is not installed. It should still run normally, but defaults to the "C:\Program Files\Dreamcatcher\Dungeon Lords\save" directory. Can you check your registry entries and let me know if that registry key exists on your system? and what is listed inside it?

Sorry, I didn't explain myself correctly. I loaded the save into the editor to replace the Inn key but in reloading, Erlinmir's Flask got blanked out and the Flask currently isn't in the editor. I think it's item #942. Fortunately, I was on my way back to Fargrove to get my Battlemage class so I didn't need the Inn key right away. I gave Erlinmir back his Flask on my way to Rhianne since Fargrove was locked down.

Background: Used the game save editor to add Mogs key earlier in the character and I had to do it a couple of times because I kept on losing weapons including the very valuable sceptre of storms. I finally got the key and retained my weapons, i think I had to reload them to character but they were in my inventory.

Now I am trying to load the same character save file in and when I open and save I am getting an arithmetic overflow and when I load it seems to work ok but on the save it must be stopping the save because the demon key that I add, is not in inventory.

Is a field in my character, that you might be useing for a counter corrupt or have you seen this before?

Secondly, am I correct to think that the error on save, stops the file from being saved. ( I get an option to continue)( i checked and I am on .net 1.1)

Hey steave,

I was just wondering, is there anyway you can edit 2 characters from a coop game? Cuase ever time I try to open a coop save game I only can edit the host's player. If you could add some feature to chosee inbetween characters in a coop game, that would be awsome!

Thanks,

Thanks for a great tool, Steve2d! Very user-friendly, simple, and covers pretty much everything it needs to cover for the average player.

Something that might be of use to some users... re-editing the same file multiple times... I've noticed that in savegame editors from various other games that if you open a save, change it, close it, then open it again, for some reason the SGE tends to open the original version of your save. Can't explain it (not a coder), but that's what consistantly seems to happen. It might look like the save you modified, but when you save it again it only saves the latest changes into the original file.

The solution is to never ever open the save a second time... Load your game, save again under a different slot, and modeify that save. Use the old slot again later if you want, there's nothing wrong with it beyond the SGE being too lazy to read the whole thing instead of using an old version with the same name.

Anyway, thanks again Steve2d.

I've often reopened the same save, at start of new game in the starting area. When I thought of something else, I would resave the same file, quit, edit the save, reopen it in game and everything is still there.

The trick is to resave over the same game, to preserve what you changed before. Then quit and edit it again. Always resave at least the same save, or save in another slot and edit the new slot.
