Thumbs up

T L Steve, I know what you're talking about. I recently transferred the old hard drive over to a new larger one. Most things were ok, but some critical programs would not uninstall or update. I redid the whole machine with a freshly formatted and new hard drive and many many hours later had everything back in order. System restore or repair IS quite painful, I assure you.

Don't rush it, just let it come back naturally. We'll all still be here, never forgetting the unique programming and hard work that has given us the incomparable editor.

I changed just my experience in the editor, and noticed, once I got back into DL CE that it reset back to be equal to my advancement points!

So, I looked for the change in a binary diff program, went into a hex editor, and changed my experience to 8 million. Well, it worked. But, my advancement points also changed (increased actually). I think that the DL program is doing some sort of consistency check between experience, advancement points, and points before next level (just a guess). I haven't spent the time to determine all the details -- I'm just happy my experience is back.

Just beware, anyone who changes either experience or advancement points in the editor!

Good luck on getting your data back Steve!

Normally, the editor has a default limit of 99 for abilities and stats. It may be that the editor determins a realistic experience level according to the 99 limit. There is the special option, in the drop down menues where you can set abilities and stats to 255, or whatever. The reason for the 99 limit is certain parts of the game you have a difficult time hitting or damaging an opponent.

Just for fun I went ahead got this dl game editor and made whole new character using only the editor to get armor and whatever else. My new goal is to get my characters just powerful as the one I used with the editor ( not using the editor on them ofcourse). I havent got online yet with anyone but is it possible to have a 1 on 1 battle with someone?

Wow, thanks a lot for that feedback. With pro-bono projects such as this editor, the thing that drives people like myself are replies like yours. Thanks again! My thanks go out to George also. He has been an amazing asset in the progress of this editor as well as being able to play the bug riddin game Cudos George.

On a side note, I have my primary system back up and running, but am still working on recovering the rest of my data. No luck thus far on extracting the source code for any versions later than V1.54. Wish me luck and I'll keep everybody posted on timing for new releases.

Map Function

Hi,

I'm trying to use this to reset my character inside Arindale because the first ladder at the tower at Lake Lohr won't let me climb up and I want to finish the quest. Otherwise I won't be able to continue if I can't get inside Arindale. I tried all three Arindale defaults. Each one gave an error. The last one something like Monster in Space! then an X and Y or X and Z location. Please help.

Thanks.

The editor was intended to move you about on the world map only. I added the map selection option so that people could see where they were prior to making changes that could mess up their file. I haven't had a lot of luck mapping/moving around on alternate maps. Perhaps some George or someone else has experimented with more than I. Why don't you just using the editor to move you above the opening in the tower that you can't get through? Just a thought. Good luck.

I've used the editor some to move from inside to outside, and from outside to inside by inputing the correct map locator and coordinates, but I actually mostly hex edit the save to avoid any major mistakes in data input, and to avoid having my vitality/life being reset to default every time the editor is used.

I prefer to keep vitality at 10000/10 and life at 20020/20020. The vitality 10 keeps opponents from becoming invulnerable to my weapons and I don't have to beat on them all day before victory.

I haven't heard of this one...I should make the next version so that you can modify either value independently, correct?

Thanks Steve I figured it out. I used your editor to determin the Y bits in the file and Hex Edited them. Come to find out I didn't need to do anything like that because I was simply standing on the wrong side of the ladder . Go figure.

That would be convenient. For now, what I do is use hex and make the first value of vitality 9999 and the second value 9. Then I make the first value of Life 9999. In game I raise the second value from 9 to 10 and exit the C screen. On going back into the C screen, the first value of life rapidly builds up. A campfire comes in handy to rest and get life up to full. Now the result is Vitality 10000/10 and Life 20020/20020.

As long as the second vitality value never goes too high, the character will be vertually invulnerable to physical abuse from opposing forces. I try not to ever bother Vitality ever again once the values are all set. Unfortunately, everytime the editor is used, it resets the Vitality to its normal values.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how to even respond to that. I hope that the error was not one of the couple of installation errors whose solutions are detailed in the FAQ section of the first message in this thread. I would have recommeneded mentioning your problem prior to voting becuase you hadn't even see the application. Incidentally, its very hard someone to assist you without details on the error that you are getting. Good luck in your ventures.

And did you fail to notice the information that you need netframework 2.0 installed before the editor will work?
