altar of stars

where you get the moonbridge key thing, the altar of stars seems to do nothing, neither do any of the other altars i've come across. i want the moon bridge thing im sick of trekking everywhere.

These altars are places to upgrade various artifacts such as weapons like the Sword of Fire that you get in Arindale if your character is elvish, however, you'll have to wait for the 1.4 patch for most of them to work. You'll find the Moonstone on an Island in the middle of Lost Lake just north of the Elven Lands. After you kill the moonbeasts who live there, one of them will drop a Moonstone. Even then, you can only travel to Moonbridges that you have visited after you find the Moonstone, as it must be attuned to each bridge.

I've been at the island a while and at fist i was overwhelmed by all the summons and mages and warriors, i tried attacking the people that kept casting the vines spell on me but it was no use, so I ran away, killed the summons and warriors and when I went back there were no mage people, nor moonbeasts, aren't the moonbeasts the huge nasty white wolve things? never saw any of those..now I've been running around and all I get is random encounter snakes.

another question right quick...if i get the 1.3 or 1.4 patch, will it affect my base character, as in will he be able to use the advantages of 1.4 or will i hvae to start a new character? thanks..
