Strategies for the Beholder?

I've made my way through all levels of Iona's dungeon, to the level where Cyrion the beholder-like creature is. I can't hardly get a hit on him before I'm dead. I'm a level 20+ warrior with pretty decent armor at this point -- any tips on how to defeat this guy?

I reeeeally hate beholders, in any game I play.
