Mayor won't take "mead"

I cannot get the dwarf to take the Dwarven Ale (from #2 on the walkthrough) and advance the storyline. Any suggestions?

If he doesn't take Rimmer's ale you could try some other forms of alcohol. The good news is you can bypass talking to the mayor and just go straight to the dwarven mines; Spoiler, highlight to read: You'll still have the speech option to give the sentry the right password ('prophecy' - though I would just kill it) and the mayor will be implicated in the plot later anyway.
