Screen blackness

I recently got Divine Divinity and i'm playing it in 800x600 mode. It really bugs me how you see the blackness of unexplored areas on the screen (in most games its just on the map). I was wondering if theres any way to get rid of this or negate the effect (like helms that let you see farther or something). Also i was wondering if the screen is supposed to be black in unexplored areas or if i have somehting wrong, all screenshots ive seen have had no blackness on the actual screen.

Welcome to the forums .

If the screenshots show no blackness, is it your monitor?

Does the viewable area properly extend to the sides of the monitor?

err I'm not sure what you mean. I'm talking about how when you go into a new part of the game that you havnt explored before, the blackness is on your screen aswell as the minimap, whereas in games like Diablo 2 an such you can see all of your screen with no fog of war, but the map will have the fog of war. I was saying that the fog of war that shows on your screen area bugs me and is there a way to get rid of it besides exploring the area?

Ah, sorry I misunderstood your question...

No I don't think there are any ways to get rid of the fog of war. There are no spells that do it either, AFAIK.

You could always play at 640x480, but I think it's just supposed to represent the line of sight of the character.

What confuses me is that it doesn't appear in screenshots, do you mean the fog of war appears when you scroll away from your character?

I checked- there is a skill called Elven Sight that you can pile points into which will extend your character's line of sight . I'm not sure when you first have access to it though. It may be a few levels.
