So Blizzard PK's some Hackers...

What do you think of Blizzard banning 100 000 accounts due to cheating?

I think it's good, I can't see the point with cheating in computer games, it's ridiculous...what the point? If you use map hacks to get advantages over others in PvP, what's the point of winning then?

It's good start, hopefully many more will be banned as well. What they really need are Gamebanshee like moderators in the channels to stops these people cold.

But some people "cheat" with cheat detectors. I've seen it done in Diablo I, I'd expect it in two...

I think Blizzard should delede all diablo2/lod accons and then start at clean table...then every body can play/traide whit other players whit out fear of cheating...for a while
New Realm could be nice too

That happens with a lot of games. For example, in Half-Life: Counterstrike, one of my buddies knows of a few people who use "Hack Detectors" to specifically get cheaters booted, while using a hack themselves.

These cheat detectors, can they be used to gain an advantage over another player in anyway?

If its sole ability is to detect cheaters, isn't that a good thing?

It can be a good thing. But usually the hackers are always one step ahead of the detectors (if it's a new hack, someone has to create a new detector that can find it). The people that use hack detectors, use hacks themselves sometimes.

Talking I'm happy

[color=firebrick]

I'm happy that blizzard will be kicking 100,000 accounts. this way it will serve as an example of what will happen to other players if they cheat it's a great scare tactic.

Its good, but not enough

100,000 may sound alot. But keep in mind theres much more than 100,000. And i'm speaking for all MMO's/rpg's and other online played games as well. With 100,000 banned, they'll only keep coming, so constant banning is helpful, but limited, and can only do so much to a point. And for the reason why people hack/cheat/expliot/bug/ whatever the heck, is because i think its their way of having "fun", i mean think about it, if you got screwed over, or hacked, wouldn't you wanna dish it right back at them? and if you did, theres the possibility of having fun there, so besides gaining overwhelming advantages, it also could be an act of revenge, since such things might have happened to them before, so they're dishing it out to everyone else, but again, they take it too far, common players should have more legal, and effective methods of helping with banning and such besides cheat detectors or whatever it is. But hackers don't deserve benefit of the doupt anyhow.Other than that, I don't see any other way. Also, I agree with The Z, and unfortunately, this happens in every online game, or at least ones i've played, and thats quite a few, so Diablo's b.net isn't alone for this kind of crap and bs.Thats my 2 cents for this.

Erm...I hate to tell this to you but you can't hack or cheat an MMORPG. Only the graphics are run on your computer, otherwise MMO's are in complete control of the company who made it.

They weren't banned for hacking the MMO, they were banned for using a duplicated or generated CD-Key.

I don't think that's entirely true. Well, In Diablo's case anyway.

It's easy enough to change the town portal, which, yes, is a graphic. But, if you change the various .dll's, that might be a different story.

Either way, good on Blizzard for banning them.

I like the Dungeon Siege 2 idea of, if your file size isn't a certain level, you're stuffed.

Not true. There's actually an awful lot of abuse possible. Almost everything happens serverside yes, but there's still possible exploits. Rogue speedhack among them. Simply by making your system respond to blizzard's ping extremely slow you can prolong your sprint ability my a minute. There's lots of stuff like that. Note that using a bot to play for you is also considered cheating as it nets your money/xp without playing for it.
