| | | Newbs, newbies, noobs How come in both major blizzard games (warcraft3 and diablo2) most people have a problem with newbs, newbies, noobs or whatever they call them.
For some reason the blizzard community is the most unfriendly community that i know.
I spend hours yesterday in crowded D2 chanels trying to get someone explain the major difference between 1.09 and 1.10 (diablo roams the world?!) and not a single reply.
Alot of "flaming" and simple noob calling, but no help at all.
Same goes for Warcraft3, i stopped playing that online cause i couldnt find anyone willing to get me started (only singleplayer isnt very good practice), and even channels are named "no-noob" etc.
The Blizzard community is even a good reason for me NOT to play World of Warcraft.
What wrong with this community, every other game i played online i was OFFERED help when people found out i wasnt very familiar with the game. And with Blizzard games you cant even ask for it. PS. I know i can get most of my questions awnsered here. PS2. I posted this in the Diablo2 forum cause its Blizzard related. But CE you can move it if you think it doesnt belong here.

| | | In many places there is actually a difference between a newb/newbie and noobs.
A newb is a new person to the game.
A noob, is someone who thinks that they know all and disrespects all those around them, generally also a significant annoyance.
I certainly abhor noobs, but i find newb tolerable.

| | | I think this question belongs here since it is closely related to D2 playing. I don't know anything about the W3 culture, but the D2 culture is infamous for being rude, unpleasant and childish. I think one should generally avoid the "Blizzard" community, and instead, look for other communities playing the Blizzard games.
For D2, there are many online communities with specific profiles like collaborating, team play, sharing of items, etc.
The Amazon Basin is one such community, and they only want mature people in their community. They have organised team-playing which you can participate in if you want. They have their own channels, so you can avoid the open chat and trade channels.
Diabloii.net also has several communites. You will often meet people who help you out with advice, items or leveling.
I have played D2 for many years now, and I never use the open channels. I even avoid open games, because I strongly dislike the "WYG" and "free itmz plz plz plz" etc. D2 is best played with people you know.

| | | Well there are people out there that try and help others out. and i relize that D2 is very rude, at times its all i can do from hitting anyone near me becuase of the stupidity online.Need help look me up im Deathandwar on uswest so ill try to help you if i can if not ill let you know who can. (If anyone can there mostly to "cruel") sometimes the way to get past it is to 1) stay out of the open channels or 2) become that what you dispise the most. you know that old saying to defeat your enemy you most become your enemy? It applys here i think.

| | newb = new gamer. if you're unfamiliar with the game, do us a favor and practice a bit before you play the field of online gaming and if you cant find a friendly player to help out, try playing with other people that are new first. people who spend their life playing a game think they're superior and enjoy being exclusive. forget them, practice and know what you're doing

| | | After hearing about it I thought I would have a go and play online only to find some people will try and help with the quests when what they are doing is racing ahead for rare and runes
Or they come in want to partner up only to go of and do some quest u haven't done so they can do it knowing it has the best items that way
I have found the same thing when your trading you get treated like rubbish and are called all type of things.
Then when you go to help someone who has set up a room for helping with questing someone else comes in decides he/she wants to duel? what is that about?
Only been on here for about 3 or 4 weeks now and have found the people here to be very selfish and unfriendly and as for help its not there at all
The few nice ones are hard to find but have found it better to go it alone rather than put up that. |

| | | The other thing D2 community is known for is ravenous cheating.. Like "Let's see just how much I can hack this game and kill Baal in one hit" kind of cheating.. Can't stand it. |

| | | I know exactly what you mean, all my characters are 100% legit, I've spent hours (to the detriment of my drinking life) getting set items and such forth and can't understand people who cheat. Where's the fun? Not all people are rude on blizzard mate. I help anyone who wants it, mature, new or just confused it doesn't matter.

| | | I always play 100% legit, and I only play with other people I know also do so.
Other people may play the game however they wish and cheat as much as they wish, as long as they don't trade duped items. The problem as I see it, is that many trade with duped runes and items, so if you wish to trade, you can only do it with people you really know unless you want to risk trading for dupes.
There are some very mature and serious communites around in the D2 world, but I don't think they are in majority.

| | | Cheating Like everything I think that cheating has it's place, sometimes I just want to go round hell with a hacked barb, but I like most of my fighters to be real, sometimes I just go and upgrade the gems, but it always takes the fun out of it, and I always get tired of hacked characters. |

| | | The whole online community is full of elitests in one form or another and it's pretty sad.
Even the most mature of people will become elitests for a brief period of time themselves when they've answered the same question about 10 times and people don't bother to read the stickied threads that are slapped up around the place.
~
Nothing ever justifies calling someone else names when they're simply asking for help, BUT...
At the same time do not go around asking insanely stupid questions like "Can I have money" and using shorthand for manners sake. If you ever want something it makes sense to be polite as possible not "GIV MONIES PLZ!!!"
~
You'll find that the kinds of people who call each other "noobs" and the like are little 14 year olds trying to act more than their age. |

| | | You hit the nail on the head there mate. There wouldn't be a need to call anyone 'Noobie' or anything stupid like that if people just helped each other out

There are great communities out there where cheating isn't tolerated and everyone is very quick to offer advice and help. i've found it to be a very rewarding gaming experience.
On the difference between 1.09 and 1.10 it's like comparing chalk and cheese. 1.10 has definately made the game more of a challenge (and for the better IMO) you have significant changes to the skills of the classes with the introduction of synergies, as well as the introduction of new items. The monsters have been given an AI upgrade and are therefore much tougher than in 1.09.
