Heya- Iv'e only just recently started playing a necro, it sounds like you guys know what the hell your doing, whereas i dont have a clue. i got him up to lvl 16, but i dont know what way to go with his skills

i was wondering if you could each shed some light onto my problems, from your own experiences, then i will be able to continue on building him up.

so far all i have is 3 skeletal mages, and 2 skeletons. Also a clay golem level 3. bone shield level 6. thats all. if you could help me, then id really appreciate your views on playing a necro.

thanks

It sounds like you've already started down the summoning necro path. They can be very good untwinked characters and also good mfers.

Skill should go something like this:

20 Skeleton mastery
20 Raise skeleton
20 corpse explosion
1 in all curses
1 Clay golem.
1 Skeleton mage
1+ in Revive

Best bet is to use a might merc as the skeletons will get the benefit of the aura. They are very safe chars to play right the way through hell.

The best kind of necromancer is the poison and bone type. Specialise in bone spirit and fire golem. Side spells are poison nova and some curse.

Probably too late now though.

For pvp the top tier is probably:
WW BvC
Ghost WWsin
Bonemancer
Wind Druid

but each of these builds have weaknesses but BvC probably has the least so WWbarb > Bone Necro.

Poison Bone =/= top tier in my experience.

Summonmancer can be very difficult, but also easily beaten by the correct build. Generally they are only threatning with Enigma (and if the opponent doesn't have it).

The problem with a poison and bone necromancer is that even at top level the skills don't do enough damage. I remember my friend firing his level 20 bone Spirit fruitlessly on the cows in hell mode.

I'm going to need to check the tables but I'm pretty sure that most of the poison and bone skills have been changed with the newest patch.

~

I originally finished hell mode in Diablo 2 (no LOD) with a summoning type necromancer. Falling back on bonespirit when fighting certain bosses like Diablo since they're far too strong for minions.

Ah mine is completely different, he's a fairly strong curser but with the ability to raise a fairly good collection of skelies and a Fire golem that is very good. If that doesn't work he has Trang Oul's complete set so he fire bombs any thing thats too nasty wades in to the fray with a dagger if all else fails. So far beat Hell but it took a lot of effort and tactics.

Personally I don't enjoy playing Necro (I have tried both PB and Golemancer) but I love teaming up with a Necro. Even at low level, the curses make my Sorcs and Bowazons kill with Formula 1-speed

I've just been looking at the skill tables on Blizzard's site and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a poison and bone necromancer has not chance in hell.

Bone Spirit at level 20 only does 350-450 odd damage, which is absolutely pitiful damage in nightmare now. My Paladin did somewhere around 3000-4000 fast attack speed damage and couldn't even kill a Blood Moor Zombie in Hell difficulty after the 1.10 patch.

Sorry Deadalready, but i have beaten Hell with a poison and bone necromancer. It was tough, but with the help of golems, mercenarys and curses, i did it. Nothing is without its challenge.

^ You could not be more incorrect .

Have you forgetten all about synergies? I deal almost 5K spirit damage IIRC without abusing the Marrowbug. Many people regard the Bonemancer as the single best pvp build currently.

EDIT: you beat me dj_venom.

Doesn't that make it a normal Necromancer? Not a Bonemancer? O_o

One point in Clay golem (and maybe mastery/resist) is enough. The main purpose of the clay golem is to slow and distract.

I play all types of chars and i am always trying to find a "new" build... Necros are awsome in PvM and Bonemancers are Great for pvp and pvm.. my summoner was all skellies with Poisin nov /lower res did rather well... then he died so i went with the Bonemancer and was very impressed.. although i DID abuse the marrowwalk's he was one of the most powerful/fast killers i have ever played.. then he died lol... i'm a Hard Core Addict!
