Item Running - Probability vs Possibility

I've recently downloaded ATMA the Drop Calculator (I must say I'm very much impressed with it too!) and I'm looking through the numbers at various dream toys.

Is it better to target specific areas for items even though they're in areas useless for exp or simply just go for broke and duke it out in the hardest and highest areas possible?

What items are you after? Magic? Set? Unique?

If you're after a specific item, I would just go for the high level bosses/areas. Their drop rates will get you something.

I recall trying for Vampire Gaze back in 2002. (v1.09) Then it dropped from an armour rack in act 2 nightmare.

It's all luck, within reason. You'll never find a specific item by specifically killing a monster over and over.

Well yeah I'm chasing a bit of everything really, magic skill charms, set items and uniques.
I've been high council, Bhaal and Misphisto running with mixed results.
