My favourite Forgotten Realms book would most definitely have to be Elfshadow. I also like Silver Shadows, Elfsong, Evermeet and quite a few others. My favourite author is Elaine Cunningham. |

My favorite author, above all else, would definitely have to be Salvatore. He is the author that made me truly enjoy reading ANY book ever.

| | I just finished Elminster: The making of a mage, and thoroughly enjoyed it! A very good book recommended to everyone. Though his road to the archmage he is now was not as I expected, Ed Greenwood did an exelent job, doing alot of unexpected turns, weaved a realistic picture of the not-so-wise-elminster when he was alittle kid. And most of all did an exelent job explaining why the hell Elminster (or Elmara) have levels in fighter, rogue and cleric in adition to wizard giving him a xp penalty of 40%  .
I'm currently reading the dark-elf trilogy, my first book by R.A. Salvatore, and I really like that way Salvatore writes, and I really have enjoyed reading the first 70 pages of homeworld, Salvatore have writing skills, that there is no doubt of. When I'm finished with the dark elf trilogy, I'm going to read the Ice wind dale trilogy

| | Yes, "Elminster: The making of a mage" is a great book. Unfortunately I only have the German edition. I read the saga until "The temptation of Elminster", which is the worst of all. Yes, it is something new and very creative...but when it comes to fantasy novels I prefer the plain and simple ones. And I hate Ed Greenwood for having leaft out whole parts of Elminsters history between book 2,3 and 4....

| | My favourite FR novel would probably be Spellfire, probably because it was the first I read  , I know, if there ever was more of an illogical reason to have a favourite I would find it . I would have to say my favourite FR author would be Ed Greenwood, mainly because I preffer his novels over ones like R.A. Salvatores Icewind Dale trilogy, as I thought they had too many repetitive moments, and some unforgivable errors, which even if you asked me, I probably wuoldn't be abel to recall, its been years since I read them, and as such I don't read that particular series anymore. I know, the most illogical reason for dropping an entire trilogy  .

my favorite author would be R.A.Salvador my favorite books the Dark-Elf trio and the Icewind Dale trio, cos Drizzt is mad and i think Salvadore is a brilliant author.
Does anyone like Dragonlance or Darksun. I think Dark Sun was awsome. All the Dark Sun books are the best reading for thier originality and thier ingenuity especially the Tribe Of One series which blew me out

I've read the darkelf trilogy, and is now at page 200 at the ICWD trilogy. Drizzt is a good character, but overrighteous and noble in a sickengly way. I don't know, I just don't like the characters that has self-imposed to rid the world of all evils and sickly overrighteous, In the darkelftrilogy he was more reflecting, and I liked him better there. In the ICWD trilogy he seams to enjoy slaughtering and torturing the evil creatures, something which doesn't make him any better than his foes. I actually find Bruenors personality to be far superior to Drizzts', not only is he funny, but he is also IMO a far more believable character. So I would actually like to see more dwarven heroes, enough of the Humans and them pointy-ears

And yeah, Drizzt can be nice, but he can also be a bit overly capable. Still, you should read the latest series of Drizzt Do'Urden books (The 'Hunter's Blades' Trilogy), especially 'The Lone Drow.' You'll definitely see a side of Drizzt you never expected to see. Still, I'd suggest reading the books that lead up to that - The 'Legacy of the Drow'* and 'Paths of Darkness'** collections, in that order - before you read 'The Hunter's Blades.' Fortunately both collections mentioned above are each in one large book each. Sound comprehendable?

| | I'd say R.A. Salvatore is the best. Then again, that is because most of Forgotten Realms books I've read are from him. I like the way he depicts combat, the climatic suspense that he achieves throughout his stories, and the psychological depth he explores in the main characters, particularly Drizzt who is usually tormented by his heritage and with the different way he is.
I've read Dark-elf Trilogy, ICW trilogy and a few of the others following up to that. He is indeed very cool, and the whole spinning around in combat while fighting with two scimitars is neat. Bruenor and Artemis Entreri are my next favourite characters.
The Cleric Quintet is also amazing...and I'd suggest it to anyone to read. Quote: |
