| | | Cyric is not dead. He was insane for awhile, but he got cured.
Other dead gods are:
Leira - godess of illusion, killed by Cyric who subsumed her portfolio
Ibrandul - god of caverns, killed by Shar who subsumed his portfolio
Myrkul - god of dead, killed by Midnight replaced by Cyric, after his insanity replaced by Kelemvor
Moander - god of corruption, killed and replaced by Finder Wywernspur
Gilgaem - God-King of Unther, killed by Tiamat
Those are the major gods of Faerun, killed within last 20 years. There were many others over time considering that by Lord Ao's decree there can be only one god covering a single portfolio (only one god of war) and current pantheon was formed by uniting at least four different pantheons. There will be more dead gods in near future (next 50-100 years) due to unification of Faerunian and Mulhorandi pantheon.
There is another interesting entry in a list of dead gods:
Tchazzar - red dragon who posed as human, managing to unite and rule Chessenta with am idea that after his disappearance a cult in his name will arise that will elevete him to godhood. He succeded only to be killed by Tiamat

| | | When was Leira's death made official? I have a 2nd Edition Forgotten Realms book that reads as follows:
"During the Time of Troubles, it was widely reported that Leira had been destroyed and that no Avatar had replaced her in the pantheon. However, Leiran specialty priests are still receiving their spells and powers, which indicates this may be a lie or that an avatar has come forward, or that another deity has picked up the portfolio of the Lady of the Mists. Official statements by the church say there is no trouble and Leira emerged from the Troubles more powerful than before. However, given the fact that most official statements are lies, most people believe her dead. But since the church knows that most people believe the statements are lies, Leira could stage her own death, report the truth, and have everyone believe her dead. As usual, the gods aren't talking about this."
... I sure hope she's not dead. She sounds like a hoot.

| | | As a side note: if a god is dead and another takes over that pantheon, the new god can choose to have people think that the old god is still alive and in charge. So churches worship the new god, but they think they worship the old. Gods do that not to loose followers .

| | | How does that work? Would it be that they're worshipping the portfolio or domains of the god, and not the god himself? I mean, if a person or cleric worships the god directly on some kind of personal level, rather than just worshipping the god's portfolio, wouldn't that worship be specific to the god?
For example, say someone believes that a god was directly responsible for saving said person's life, and this person in turn worships that god as a show of thanks. This compared to the farmer that worships the god of agriculture for the chance of the god gracing the farmer with a good harvest. In that sense, the first person is worshipping the god, and the second person is worshipping the portfolio.

| | | The new god recieves al prayers for the portfolio and that are directed at the old god.
As he chooses not to let know that the old god is dead, he grants them power/spells as if the old god did.
The person doesn't know he doesn't reach his god but one who impersonates it.

| | Hmmm...thank.
Well one question: In *History of the Dead Three* it said that three adventures, Bhaal, Myrkul and Cyric went to the old God of dead to take his place. What was the name of this god?
Bhaal became Lord of Murder, Myrkul god of dead...But what was Cyric???

| | | Actually, it was Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul that were killed, and Cyric alone took over for them. Bane was The Black Lord, and his portfolio was strife, hatred, and tyranny. Bhaal was the Lord of Murder, and his portfolio was death. Myrkul was the Lord of Bones, and his portfolio was the dead, decay, corruption, and dusk.
Our buddy Cyric is The Dark Sun, and his portfolio is death, murder, the dead, strife, tyranny, and lies.

| | | I'm not sure when did Leira's death become official but Faiths and Pantheons state that shortly after ToT Mask betreyed her to Cyric who killed her using a Godsbane sword (an avatar of Mask) and took over her portfolio.
You have old info on gods portfolio, this is the current one:
Cyric - Murder, Lies, Intrigue, Deception, Illusion
Bane - Strife, Hatred, Tyranny, Fear
Kelemvor - Death, the dead
The old god of Dead was Jergal who got tired of being god so he relinquished his portfolio (one version said he rolled a dice with each of the three with part of his portfolio as stake) and Bane, Myrkul and Bhaal each got one third of his former portfolio. Jergal is now demigod serving Kelemvor. |

| | | Hm. Can anyone enlighten me about Waukeen? Is he (she?) dead? Then why his (her?) priests still have some power?

Llirra held her portfolio intact and heeded the calls of Waukeen's worshippers in that meantime.
