First campaign in 15 years...

Hi folks. My old gaming group is regrouping and I am writing a new gaming world for it. I am only in the idea stage right now and have not much written down. I am not sure if I want to do this 1st, 2nd, or latest edition. I am more comfortable with the original 2 editions.

I'm planning on adding a Cthulu-ish feel to the game. It may sound kind of generic but there are three 'Great Old Ones', old gods who are returning to reclaim their world which was lost to a bunch of 'child' godlings (the current pantheons). The Great Old Ones (who I need a better name for) are more evil than Bane or Bhaal or Cyric could even dream of being and they already have a huge (mostly human) secret cult who are the primary antagonists. These cultists will have thoroughly infiltrated most of society's institutions and organisations...

Magic in this realm is different. Mages have their primary schools which they can achieve all 9 levels of spells but their secondary schools can only reach 2nd level (in all schools) but their primary schools will be more powerful than the norm. They will be able to add 'bonus' spells like a cleric... Wild Mages and Sorcerors are the exception. These classes are normal in every way except that they are considered renegades and criminals (like in Dragonlance).

There will be a very large and powerful thieves guild which, while being lawless and evil, are the best friends the good side has because they are the only ones shifty enough to realise what is going on and, hey, they know that what is coming is bad for business.

I am incorporating aspects from several different settings so it will be recognisable to many. I plan on using lots of psionics, mind flayers, gibberlings, aboleths, intellect devourers, undead, beholder-kin, neogi, undead, undead, evil clerics, undead, evil psionicists, and a few undead to top itall off. Any ideas on insanity/ weird creatures feel free to shoot them to me.

The drow in this world will be albinos (as everyone knows that is what happens to creatures in a world of no sunlight...) I am unsure of how prominent dragons will be but I am creating a race of dragons for this world. They are True Dragons. All other dragons are an offshoot of this race and the True Dragons have been around since the time of the Great Old Ones.

So. Any feedback/ideas you have, feel free to hit me with them. And don't hesitate to tell me if something is stupid, lol...

Thanks!

Hey Pell,

I think the campaign sounds interesting! I also think that you are suffering from a simple lack of response. In fact the campaign you've outlined doesn't sound all that different from the BG2:SOA campaign story- limited magic, powerful thieves guild, etc. I say... run with it! And let us know how it is going!
