Superfluous Rants I
Posted 09-05-2007 at 05:18 PM by Siberys
A place to rant without needing to create a new thread, Joy to the world indeed. Anyways, this is a place where I'll rant about what I feel like, feel free to join in with your own rant or comment on mine, it's superfluous anyways.
So I think I'm going to be screwed out of my mind from my Visual Basic 2005 class; my professor speaks like Elvis Presley if he did speed. Think of a deep voice that Boomhower has on King of the Hill, and that's in essence, my professors speaking capabilities. So, every class, I try and try to understand him. The second session I even took a tape recorder to see if I could slow it down and make it audible, but to no success. So, every class I'll try again to comprehend him, and every class I'll more than likely end up giving up and playing a bit of starcraft on my laptop. Good way to spend my money, eh? Problem with this, I really like this class. It's part of my profession, it's the reason I actually decided to go to college, but this is the only teacher of this class.
Yesterday, I was out looking for a job downtown and when I put in a few applications for the day, I biked right back down to the Bus Terminal so I could go home. I realize I'm rather thirsty and there's soda in a machine in the terminal for less than a buck, less than bus fare even. So I ask a couple people, just like two or three if they have spare change (I didn't want to go around to everybody seeing if they had change as that seemed a little greedy). Now, the answers I was expecting were more than likely no, or that they only had enough for the bus fare, no big whoop. But, the third dude looks at me after I ask for change and says straight to my face "Screw you, get a job you dirty hobo!" Now, mind you I'm on a two hundred dollar bike in a brand new polo shirt, a pair of decent black khaki's with no rips whatsoever, and a two week old pair of steel toe boots. How in gods name am I a hobo? That just makes no sense. I didn't say anything or do anything to the guy, but dammit all if i didn't want to punch him (who wouldn't?).
And for my last rant, why do people keep ranting about how V for Vendetta is directly related to the supposed "conspiracy" of 9/11? V for Vendetta was not only created in 1984, not only models after the book 1984, but reflects the government style of totalitarianism, NOT Democracy (Or republic or whatever we're considered right now). I'm getting sick and tired of people who rant about how V for Vendetta was disrespectful to the tragedy of 9/11 OR the people who rant about how it's directly related to the supposed conspiracy just as a form of indirect proof to support there cause (Not many do this but I DO know people who actually believe this). Whatever happened on 9/11 was 6 years ago next Tuesday, all I know is whatever actually happened at 9/11, it's overwith. It's like if we still thought Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and were STILL looking for them, what the hell for?
Anyways, done ranting. Just felt like spewing information out for no apparent reason, always a good stress reliever though.

| | Yup, I agree with Xandy... ![]() I did the same with VB 6.0, and it was far more interesting when compared to Java classes I'm having at the uni right now... |

| | Yeah, but college is 100% free to me right now anyways, so I might as well. |

| | Heh, not really good luck when you think about it. I'm poor and having to take free money from the government just to go to college. It takes 2500 bucks for me to go to 2 semesters full time, which is why I feel so guilty that Financial Aid is giving me (Note: Not loaning, GIVING) 6500 a year. |

| | Heh. Had the same thing, sort of. Over here they turn that money into loans if you don't graduate within a certain amount of time. Way to discover your own potential there. I didn't finish my first choice of study, which wasn't necesarily my best. Yes, *ding*, that was computer stuff. Information Engineering, don't know if that rings a bell. After that came English, and right now I'm turning things around again to study Philosophy. Well, Humanistic rather. But same damn difference. |

| | Rant II- So today I've been playing a bit of oblivion, modded of course, and then I surf for more mods and I see one called Dune with a picture of a giant desert. This has my attention, as well as my drool. So, I go to download it, but guess what I see. The maker of the mod has uploaded it to a website that requires a premium account (which costs loads of money) just to download this with any effectiveness. So, since I'm not going to pay money for it, I go for the free version. It downloads at 40 kbps, my max is 200kbps. This is good, it's gonna take 5 times as long just to download a simple mod. Well, no big deal I thought, at least it's going to get done with. Except, I see that it requires "part 2" of the download after part 1 finished, and since the upload site requires you to have premium membership or download 1 file per 24 hours as a max, well I'm screwed to play this mod until tommorrow. This next rant is more my fault entirely, but it still kinda ticks me off. I spent all day playing oblivion, and I mean ALL day playing it even though I knew the whole time I have to get my algebra homework done. Procrastination is an evil but addictive thing. |

| | Uh.. WOW. Thanks for the uplink. I hope you get to ride giant sandworms and stuff. Wait.. nononono, don't tempt me in installing Oblivion again. ![]() |

| | Heh, there's a lot of mods out there that make oblivion worth while. The four main ones are Francesco's Leveled Items/Creatures mod, Modular Oblivion Enhanced, Martigen's Monster Mod, and Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (all of which are completely compatible with each other). These four mods sum up a gig and a half just to make the game playable, and they did a damn fine job I have to say. |

| | Payable. Yes, I played it with most of the aforementioned mods. I guess Oblivion is still on that list of games I go down when I get bored with everything else. I haven't needed it in a while though. Too many mods I need to install to get everything up and running, too little I get back in return. Relationships are ended permanently for less, so I like to assume that's just the way of things. |

| | Heh, I download Dune, and guess what? It's not even in an alpha stage, even though it was advertised as a beta. Alpha stage I would expect most of the textures and meshes to be complete in a mod, like monsters and NPC's and stuff. Maybe some of the caves as well. Nope, there was one tiny building, and a giant world of sand. JUST sand, and 500 megabytes worth. What a waste of time. At least I still have the lost spires mod, this one is so much better. |

| | They probably just do that to attract scripters and model makers. They're in high demand all over the community, so a little bit of publicity is needed if you want to get anything done. |

| | Rant III- So, earlier today I had this problem with my laptop. I needed to connect to the new wireless internet they have for everybody at my college who is a student. So, knowing that I already signed up for wireless and had the connection stuff implemented, it's a simple upgrade no? I download the new file needed for the wireless connection, set everything up, and no internet. During a BREAK of my class, meaning ten minutes to kick back and relax for a moment, I go to the computer tech service area, and they have a look at my PC. They don't give my PC back and I'm not leaving the area when they have a four hundred dollar piece of machinery in their grasp. It takes them an hour and a half to find out what the bloody problem is. For like twenty or thirty minutes, they just kept doing the same thing over and over saying "Why doesn't this work" before trying something new. So...yeah, that's kind of bad when they clearly have no idea what the hell they are doing in basically the computer tech area of the entire campus. I pointed out to them about an hour into it "Well, it is an older machine, and an old copy of XP. Maybe it's not updated enough?" Lo and behold, they check the version and guess what they find, it's not service pack two, and that's a requirement to working with the wireless on this PC. My question is, if they have 5,000 students at Ivy Tech, and at least 3,000 of them all have laptops and all want to connect to the internet, shouldn't they have a list of say, system requirements, that they'd go through FIRST before anything? I mean, that'd be like me with my old GeForce 2 machine double clicking the program, Oblivion and wondering why it's not coming up, and doing this for over an hour. |

| | Rant IV- Why do people have the incessant need to interrogate you once they find out you have a personal touchy subject? Like for instance, lets say you're father died a few months ago, and even though you really liked him, you're getting over it and getting on with your life. Now, when someone finds out about this or you mention it to someone, they start interrogating you about it. That's so sad, what happened, how did he die, did you love him or did he get what he deserved, was he someone I knew, was he murdered or was it just an accident? Etc. This example doesn't apply to me, but there are other things that happen that are similar to this, and I am so sick of it turning it into an interrogation seminar, as if the person talking to me was an FBI agent or something. |

| | People? Like, everyone, or just those that consider you a friend? If it's friends we're talking about, a subset will always get overly worried and bother you about it to no end. But that means they're the dependable types, so knowing that can come with some advantages. I'd sooner ditch friends who didn't bother me about it. Random people can just take a hike for all I care. |

| | Rant V- Isn't exorcise supposed to be, oh I dunno, GOOD for you? Today instead of riding the bus to campus, I decided to bike there. It was a fifteen minute bike ride to campus and I thought, well I can take a bottle of water with me and I'll be fine. Now, I don't have the best physical condition in the world, but I do know my legs are awfully strong considering I've been walking pretty much everywhere since I was 15. So, I take my bike, ride out to the new campus, and halfway there I nearly pass out and I did throw up. Probably my fault for pushing myself too much for biking to campus but also kind of odd since I'm pretty fit for riding a bike in the least. Also, with the previous rant aside, why do people keep insisting on there methods to lose weight. It seems that America will do anything to lose weight except diet and exercise. We have pills, we have surgeries, we have energy shakes and protein bars, we even have basically a clamp that goes around the bottom of your esophagus; a CLAMP to make you feel like you're full, kind of extreme no? But the one thing that does indeed always work is diet and exercise, is the one always ignored. People say that they tried diet and exercise, but it's not a one month program and that's the longest I've heard people try it. And whats worse is people think that diet and exercise is impossible. Really, is it really impossible? Five food groups, a plate portion for three meals, and maybe a fifteen minute run up and down the hallway stairs, that's not the most extreme diet method and probably takes a little longer, but it'd still work right don't ya think? Hell, if I had the motivation for the stairs part, I'd just soon do that myself. I've already got the three meals part down pat. |

| | Rant VI- I hate sirens sometimes. Here in Bloomington, a half metropolis with nearly a hundred thousand people and two full fledge colleges means we have some drunken idiots running around acting like jackasses most of the time. So, on average I hear a siren close to my home once every half hour, and this gets really annoying when I need to get to sleep at the reasonable sleeping hour of three in the morning and I hear this. I nearly fall asleep and it wakes me back up, sort of giving me a second wind for another hour or so. Not to mention, my parents whom I still live with are rather poor, meaning air conditioning isn't always an option, and open windows seem a better alternative. Oh, and lets not forget that I have a poorly made mattress was supposedly going to last 20 years and yet it has springs poking out and a dip on both sides within the first 4 years of owning it; finding a decent position that doesn't involve a tasty Siberys shishkabob is VERY hard to do. |
