The Art of Communication
I have recently enrolled in a Communications programme, and given some aspects of my personal life this seems timely. In contemplating an assignment I came across a web page about email use, and I saw the following:
I sighed when I read that, it explains a great deal. All too often I find it easier to communicate through writing for some reason. Just great, just bloody great... *sigh*
I suppose at least some of the reason for this is that I tend to be introspective. It probably also explains why I'm somewhat less reserved online than I am in person.
Of course, if I'm communicating with somebody else who is generally introspective, whether online or in person, none of this is a problem..
But, if I'm talking to somebody who is a lot more gregarious and outward-looking than I am, I run into difficulties. It's as though we are trying to reach one another through a jumble of airwaves.. one of us will be on FM, the other will be on AM.
Oh the irony of my taking a communications course...

A person's ability to communicate effectively via e-mail depends highly on his or her writing skills.
Some even report that they prefer writing as a way to express themselves. They take delight in words, sentence structure, message formatting, and the opportunity to craft exactly how they wish to express their thoughts and moods. They enjoy that "zone of reflection" where they can ponder and self-reflect before expressing themselves.
