Faerun is HUGE, and mostly very detailed in the novels, in the campaign map and i the "Forgotten Realsm Campaign Setting" -book (Read it, it`s a must for FR and BG lovers), so there are endless possibilties.

Personally I agree with those that prefer a completely new story, some other place than the Sword Coast. The Baldur`s Gate saga is LONG but extremely well done, but the saga is closed. Let the Bhaal spirit at rest already!! Perhaps we can revive him in 10 years or so (100 FR-years). After reading the drizzt books and played the BG`s, IwD`s, NWN`s dozens of times, discussing them forth and backwards, I`m really really fed up with the sword coast and all those crazy people, semantic bards, worgs and wolves, vampires, the Iron Throne, coal mines, the everlasting meddling between Icewind Dale-Waterdeep-Baldur`s Gate-Amn-Tethyr... yes, Icewind Dale has really been squeezed enough. If BG3 is set to Icewind Dale, I`ll hang myself.

I want the story to be set a TOTALLY different place. Preferably the other side of Faerun.. perhaps.. THAY! Yeah.. you could start as a slave in the land of Red Wizards, with regional ruler-mages that endlessly plot to destroy each other.. ruled by the baddest, meanest most intelligent vampire-wizard ever, Szass Tam. That endlessly attacks Aglarond ruled by this crazy Simbul witch (Elminster`s lover btw). If Aglarond falls, then the way is open for Thayan wizards and their undead armies to march through the inner Faerun. So.. it`s YOU who have to do something about it

That would be something. The Simbul (Alassra Silverhand) is a fascinating character, and there is written way too little about her.

Besides i hope BG3 won`t be named a BG3.. I hope for a different FR setting with a totally new name. If the story is i the nearby of my suggestion, they should name it "Thay", or use a hype from some mystical bad guy in the game.

It's the name that sells

Changing the name would be stupid because Baldur's Gate games are known for their quality and will attract ppl

If it had nothing to do with anything BG (or the BG story line) then it would be a completely different game and shouldnt be discussed in BG3 section.

But using a respected name on a possibly rubbish game would ruin it.

ideas for BG3

The game rules are expansive enough for the character to play as an avatar and there's a lot of room at the top for high powered gaming.

When i finished BG2, I felt that there could be more done with the following:

1) Getting Aerie's wings back. Why can't she get them regenerated? The in game stated reason (her muscles have atrophied) makes no sense. If there was regenerative magic, then priests would either learn or have others trained in physio.

What about if it was part of a sinister plot to take someone who would have been a champion for her race, and one day led them to victory against the evild dragon hordes, and condemn them to wander in darkness and despair until they could be twisted into the service of evil? What if the main character had changed that outcome? Tiamat would not be pleased!

2) Saving Viconia. Fight your way to the abyss through the unnatural and twisted denizens. A nasty, chaotic environment (anyone here remember the Q1 (and Q2?) modules?). Take out Lolth. For good. come back with Viccie and her brother for good measure. They are held against the laws of the planes as they are not evil ... well, i think Viccie isn't, just *damaged* by an incredibly abusive (in every sense) upbringing, and having her brother save her only to be corrupted into something foul by Lolth is enough to make anyone bitter.

another idea

I played an awsome game 'Eternal Darkness' where you were playing as several characters and each one had a mission throughout real world history. All the story lines were woven together...

I wonder if you COULD be new bhaal (or else the 'good' hero) but instead of running around battling ultra beasts with your super duper duper powers you could be influencing other beings to fight in your cause. Other God's in other pantheons could be the enemies (their agents rather).

So instead of taking 1 party at one time in Faerun's history through battles...you could be taking several. It would allow for re-use of map locations too! (that may sound a bad thing but if you played 'eternal darkness' then you know that its gosh darn interesting to see how various areas get changed over the millenia).

Also, since everyone has seen the abilities of various classes (in general -- make them a little new so its REALLY a blast the first day to get acclimated), we can delve into some other dimension of abilities. In BG1/2 it was the Bhaal powers/slayer but maybe in 3 it can be some sort of item powers maybe? As teams (set in Faerun history) acquire item X they are triumphant (mini-closure)...now it goes to a different team who HAS item X in their inventory (given to them by the godlike protagonist or his agents) and they face enemies who you gonna need that item to face.

A game set in the Time of Troubles could be set anywhere, and would have some truely excellent bosses to fight.

It actually makes sence for the game to be about the city Baldur's Gate, since that's the name of the game

And a prequel makes sence, since that allows them toinsert people we didn't see in the original game. Imagine them having Commander Brage in the temple of Nashkel, and the player saying: "But I killled you in BG1!?!" and being really disappointed.

Oh, and I'd like for the game to be centered around Baldur's Gate... let us go visit Durlag, who is building a tower out west... Let Mage-PC's and -NPC's be found in Ulcaster's school. Let there be a Warlord living in the to-be Gnoll stronghold. Fight on either side in the battle of the fields of thet dead. Help finance Candlekeep. Find out who Icharyd really was. Let the Firewine bridge be standing is all it's splendor. Who where those cave-dwelling Kahoz-worshippers? Set sail with balduran on one of his adventurs (not his final one).
Make us explore the countryside of the Sword Coast freely like BG1. Don't put the plot on rails like BG2 was after spellhold. Please.
And make more NPCs and romances, but make other Npcs than clerics and druids romanceable

This game has potential. But det devs need to pull out the qualities of the previous games, and eliminate the bad ones.

I think that setting the game during the time of troubles would be interesting. I'd like the ability to acquire Cyric as a party member (for those who don't know, Cyric was a mortal until after the time of troubles). You could confront Bhaal, only to have Cyric leave your group at the last minute to challenge and defeat Bhaal himself. After Bhaal is defeated, you could meet up with Gorion, who would inform you that Bhaal has sown his evil seed in many women, and tell you to meet him at that infamous temple in ten days. You aid him and his group in destroying the temple, but when Gorion flees with the baby that will become the PC in BG1, you notice a crying baby in the burning ruins of the temple. You run in and rescue him, and then bring him to safety in civilization.

These are just rough concepts, but I think that they would be interesting to play.

I like your thinking!

a time when the ruins were whole and where some notable buildings had not been built. perhaps the central idea of the game could be to destroy a previous Bhaal avatar - you are set by fate to stop him - neither of you start out particularly powerful, but destiny is a coin spinning on its edge - will it come down heads - you win or tails, you lose. the PC is not a spawn, but is the offspring of a cleric whose deity wants a child dedicated to completing the prophesy in a particular way so that instead of 1000 years of supernatural war, there is 1000 years of relative peace - what about Demagorgon? could the mission be to prevent Demagorgon breaking through or to get the necessities to create the seals?

Talking Baldurs Gate 3 playing as Sarevok

I would like to play the path of Sarevok and try and achieve the Lord of Death role. Then as an expansion a war with Baldurs Gate fighting amn. The player being Sarevok leading Baldurs Gate.
However I have heard that the game will be called Baldurs gate 3: The black Hound

After reading the article:

http://www.gamebanshee.com/interview...lackhound1.php

I'm actually happy this didn't become BG3. The storyline doesn't seem so grand...unless she turns out to be a Bhaalspawn (and that might be lame too).

I noticed Josh Sawyer thinks Atari currently own the rights to another BG titled game. They could possibly make a decent go at this. ToEE sucked big time with regard to quality and story but the engine seemed sound and the artwork acceptable.
