Unhappy Please, please don't let there be a BGIII.

I know, I know, I'm setting myself up to be railled on but I really don't want there to be a BGIII. Throne of Bhaal was intended to be BGIII originally, but time constraints and the fallout between Bioware and Black Isle in terms of Interplay made creating it as a full game near impossible.

Since then, well, things have changed. If BGIII were to be made, it would have to be in the updated graphics engines, gamers would demand nothing less. Yet in terms of systems, the infinity engine is the most enjoyable CRPG engine I've ever played on. To me, it wouldn't be Baldur's Gate without it, and yet I can't imagine a new game made with it.

Second, the story's done. The Bhaalspawn saga's over. It bloody well should remain such. The characters hit levels most GM's wont ever entertain. Even without assending to Godhood, the PC is possibly the most powerful individual alive short of Demon lords and godly avatars, what could possibly rise to challenge him without making the game obscenely OTT? The point of a saga is it's based around certain protagonists, as soon as those protagonists change, the it's a different saga, a different series.

Finally, some things just shouldn't be brought back. Baldur's Gate is an RPG classic, even to a greater extent than Fallout was, it's had it's day and should be left the classic it is. Anyone who aquires the license is looking to make money off it as well, it runs a huge risk of being obtained by people who consider it a fiscal opportunity rather than a labour of love.

So for the love of all that's holy, leave the series to rest in peace.

I won't lie, i registered to reply to your post. I played Baldurs Gate I & II on consoles, not on a PC, i had no idea there were even expansions out. That said, i can completely understand where you are coming from, back when i played it was Black Isle, and i am also a little worried to see anyone else run a Baldurs Gate game into production, but Atari said that they would do the series justice and i hope they keep their word on that. Also, something i didn't realize, but the Baldur's Gate PC and console games were REALLY different, so in that sense, i all depends on which path they choose. From what i am understanding, if they go from where Baldur's Gate II Dark Alliance left, everything shoulb be pretty smooth. Lastly, if they update the graphics, but leave the gameplay and mechanics alone, everything should be fine.

I agree somewhat I loved the bg2 and good ole' BG but the bhaal spawn saga is done. However I wouldn't mind if TOB and SOA were remade in the way that those oh so holy designers intended. Because from what I have read if it was it would be incredibly good with more quests and more answered questions.

They could make another game from the perspective of another bhaal spawn that might work if it is done right. But the chances of the Infinity engine being used are 12000000 to one even though it is the best engine for gaming I have ever seen. Plus like you said the graphics, honestly even though the old graphics are really low tech...THEY WERE FREAKIN BEAUTIFUL. I loved the designs of the various areas. The underdark and the shuagin city were amazing. In my mind they were much better then todays graphics as they had a delicate artistic beauty as if you could take a screen shot and place it over the fireplace calling it modern art!

But I digress, the saga is over and done with. I their was to be a bgIII then it would have to be done right, and have relatively nothing to do with the bhaalspawn. It could be acceptable to have it like a what happened after TOB depending on the option you chose. Or like I said it is from the perspective of another Bhaal Spawn

I don't want a third game, but I DO want a game with a combat system even half as entertaining as BG2 was. The abundant amount of spells and the way you could use them, all abilties, all the options... Man, it's been so many years and we still learn new things about the game.

That one I'm with you on.

I do want a BG3, as BG2 is the best game I ever played, but what I fear is that it wouldn't be as good as the others.

That being said, there's no way the third game would feature the main protagonist from the other 2. At the end, you're just too powerful.

But... the story could be connected with it. Easily.

Anyways... if it is ever made, I will pray for it to become a classic, and a great game that really is at BG2's height in terms of gameplay, story, greatness, and originality.

Well, that's easy. If you don't like BG3 (in case it will be released), don't buy it
I think the BG world offers many chances to make another good story. But I understand your concern.

I only stopped by this forum by mistake, I usually skip it as it seems to me to be the most meaningless forum on GB. Saw this thread and had to chime in, because I totally agree with Cyro.

How can there be a BGIII? Throne of Baal was the end of the series, no follow up scope exists, and a 'prequel' seems like a pointless exercise too. Also the BG series was wholy and soley AD&D 2nd Edition, no chance of WotC allowing that to continue, 3/3.5 are virtually dead and buried and 4E looks even less like AD&D than 3E did, as difficult to believe as that is.

The Baldur's Gate series is over, leave it to rest in peace.

What i would like to see is a game with just as good a storyline, the system for the game done up the same, npcs that held there own options, and the rest of the things that made BG so great yet not be the same story but a new one starting a new.

Now that being said while i do not suggest they do this it is possible to have a BG3 in storyline, they would simply have to make it out like your main in I and II chose not to take the power and you main character is unknowingly a descendant of the many romances from the second game that your main character can have or a child from one of the other bhaal spawns entirely and as the power is now dormant the gods now wish for someone to take back the domain that they are fighting over and your character gets put in the middle of it. Again not saying they should do this, actually i rather they didn't, simply pointed out that anyone can come up with a 3min idea way to put a cheesy way of doing something up without much though.
