Hmm if anything I think BGIII might be before BGI/II so maybe we might see Elminster when he was young or maybe even his trainer.

If BG3 takes place 80(?) years before BG1 I'm pretty sure you won't meet any characters from BG1 or BG2 (Ah, Dwarfs and Elves and Gnomes live pretty long tho ...)

Given how unbelievably old Elminster is supposed to be, it'd have to be set way back in the past to see him young!

Elves are supposed to be immortal (barring being killed in combat), thanks to their handy-dandy 'faraway tree' thing (that you save in BG2), so any of them could turn up in a prequel. There's a reference to Xan in Icewind Dale (you find the corpse of his cousin), which is set in the past (before Drizzt left the underdark).

Personally, the only character I'd like to see in a prequel would be Bhaal himself. We know he took mortal form, and that he died... but exactly who or what killed him?

How trippy would it be helping Gorrion to save the bhaal-spawn child that you yourself played in the BG series? If you failed, would it automatically uninstall all of the BG series of games from your hard drive (since none if it would have happened)? It hurts my head just thinking about it...

AFAIK, Cyric did.

These are a few of my favourite NPCs

Minsc and Boo should definitely be playable NPCs (very funny and let's face it, at least everyone remembers them!)
I liked the very improbable marriage of Jaheira and Khalid (Hilary and Bill?)
Imoen seems almost indispensible to a BG saga.

Whatever NPCs appear in a future BG3, I would definitely WISH for the format of being able to play with a party of no more than 6 characters (more than that would feel like you are leading an army). I very much liked the impromptu conversations that broke out between the party members: a feature that was missing in NWN. I preferred having party members who joined my group for some personal reason of their own (rather that just hiring henchmen for money).

So for my money, BG3 should have the NPC stye and dynamics of BG1 and 2 (a lot of us rated BG1 and 2 the best ever RPG game thus far and as the saying goes: if it ain't broke.......)

It seemed to me that the guys who designed the BG games where just doing what they thought was good fun and interesting. The games that came after that seemed overcautious and "playing to the galleries" ie going for what the markets (those 10-15 year-old boys) might want. A bad move....

Hmmmmmmmmmm: meeting Baldur and killing him for his great equipment: sounds like an endgame to me. then they'd have to bring out a BG 4 so you get a chane to use that great equipment

I'd like the chance to control Drizzt and take part in the events that made him famous, definately agree with the Minsc and Boo revival......wasn't there a really promiscuous female at one point?!?! That could be fun too.

How many times do I have to correct people? Let me make this final and clear right now for anyone who is even vaguely thinking of posting something about Bhaal again.

BHAAL WAS KILLED BY CYRIC
BHAAL WAS KILLED BY CYRIC
BHAAL WAS KILLED BY CYRIC

So stop posting that you think it would be cool to finally find out who killed Bhaal! It's no mystery! You should know who and why already! Stop posting stupid questions!

Aah - but was he killed DIRECTLY by Cyric, or by someone working for him? Or did Cyric have help? After all, at the end of Icewind Dale II, it's not really the party of adventurers that kill the big bad bosses, but rather a dodgy mythal. So it could be said that Larril (however you spell it) ultimately killed Isair and Madae - even though he was long dead at the time.

The same's true of Amelissan at the end of Throne of Bhaal. The Bhaal-child didn't actually kill her - it was the deva who stepped in on behalf of the other gods who did it.

As for anyone who 'should know... already'; some of us have actual lives, and don't bother researching the histories of fictional characters.

That's a great mini-quest idea! So, there's a vote for Gorion. I would bet that his Harper buddies, Jahiera and Khalid would help. Oooh, oooh wait...maybe something you did/do/witnessed in this quest makes Khalid the quivering, sniveling coward he becomes in BG1!

You could run into a little toddler Imoen.

But the Thread's question is playable NPC would you like to see?

So let's see more of Jan and his wit/charm
