| | Time stop + improved alacrity_ toasted nicely toasted jus wondering if anyone else has had half as much fun with this combo as me
my sorc (staff of magi+robe of vecna) casts time stop, alcrity, and unleashes havoc
fancy stadning in the way of 7 cone of colds? magic resistance not a problem! very few battles can't be won with this tactic, all in one round.
was my fav tactic for my solo sorc, although i have to admit, my cavalier is way more fun |

| | I normally did it this way: project image, then have the image cast timestop - improved alacrity. This way you can win almost any battle in three rounds and effectively cast only one spell.

| | in the battle with balthazar, my elevan mage thief. had spell triggers with pierce magic and breach and sequencers with magic missles and acid arrows in them. he was equipped with robe of vecna, amulet of power. i cast time stop, and then improved alacrity.
i let off my spell trigger and sequencers. all my offensive spells which included two abi's horrid wilting, many cone of colds on balthazar yet he managed to survive.

| | Well, balthazar is VERY cheesy... he has 90 percent resistance to all forms of damage except physical. So with 2 pierce magic you lowered his MR by 2*(your level), but you could do nothing against his resistances to cold, acid, and etc.
It's really annoying that, in ToB, anyone is HIGHLY resistant to magic damage, and this resistance, in many cases, can't even be lowered, but very few people have decent resistance against physical damage... sooo unfair to mages...

| | Check the Ironworks boards, there are many combos with Time Stop + Improved Alacrity, screenshots and all. Dundee Slaytern has played solo sorcerer thru the game many times, also solo cavalier.
Anyone else can access the Ironworks boards? I cannot, starting this monday.. Either it's something with my firewall or something with the boards. Link to Ironworks Boards. |

| | Why All this about Balthazer's def ??
In my opinion since we are talking lvl9 magic just throw a few dragon's breath at him and he's toast.
What I normally do to him
(Greater Acurity + Time Stop + all my Dragon Breaths + Fire Ball(Balti should be dead by now) + whatever offense spells just for kicks) |

| | I know D. breath have virtually no casting time. Just like to see them go off together and not wait for them 1 by 1 |

| | I'm a bit surprised that no one ever mentioned the reverse of this
tactic: Imp. Alcrity + Time Stop!
If you can cast in this order without being interrupted, you have
more time to spend in Time Stop.
Having some sort of fighter mage this can be very useful.
I like to try the battles without preparations, so you can enter
the Time Stop, cast immediatly breach on your enemies and the
like followed by all the protective and melee oriented spells on you
(most of them with 0 casting time if you're properly equipped),
cast Improved Haste and Tenser, and still remain with a free round
or so to crush your freezed enemies!!!!!
Against Balthazar I got even the doubled Imp. Alacrity + Time Stop
casting Wish, I think I've had three or four free rounds to strike
him with my Katanas!
In "real time", the poor monk passed from life to death
without even realizing it... Poor monk |

| Lucky for you he wasn't in Lunar stance when you stopped time.

| | i thought balthy was imune to Time Stop.
And also, for the order of Improved Alacrity and TS, I still think that you should first cast the TS, which has a duration of 3 ("apparent") rounds, and then IA, which has a duration of 2 rounds. In this way, they fit very nicely.
But i still think that Improved Alacrity alone is more than enough, at least if you have the robe of cheese and the amulet of power...
