Well I just fought this guy again and I am sorry to say that sunray does not work on him nor does any other spell. Strangely mace of disruption doesn't work either. Undead destroyed message comes up but the demi-lich remains.
As always a good old bashing is the most reliable way of killing in BG.

I agree. Very weird indeed. However the last time I used that tactic was before BG2 even had a first patch released so maybe it has been fixed? Or maybe I was just lucky...

Does the Demi-Lich at least take some damage from the Sunray? Heck, even Melfs Minute Meteors hits him. And they are nothing compared to Sunray...

Just cast a single dragon breath and the lich will be toasted.

Nope, dragons breath fires him REAL good, one hit kill. Easy. Also, gave imeon a really good "most powerful foe vanquished" thing.

MWHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
What I dont get however, is how you can be hit by a red dragons full powered breath and STILL have 200000 gold pieces in tact, wouldnt it be in one big lump?

Try this:
Move in wif people carrying +4 or better ranged weaps.
Keep one person near de door and shoot
Once de lich starts casting his fave spell,
make a quick exit..
Repeat as necessary

Cheesy effectiveness

Kangaxx was a Biatch to kill but if you're playing Watcher's keep in TOB, then you're characters should be buff enough to beat the demilich the conventional ways. I just hasted, whirlwinded and bumrushed my fighters in with +4 weapons and the skull just blipped out in two rounds without getting one imprisonment off. I think I fired off ring of ram with one of my mages too.

Has anyone tried Bolt of Glory?

It worked well on Demogorgon, but I didn't think to use it against the demilich.

Also, I noticed that raising my magic resistance to 100 with Potions of Magic Protection didn't help against imprisonment.

Spell immunity and a good old fashioned beating was all it took - though this one was a little more clever than Kangaxx. I found that Kangaxx concentrated only on Aerie while my other characters whacked away. The skullscum in Watcher's Keep kept turning around and imprisoning my unprotected main character (fighter).

Demiliches certainly are entertaining - though somewhat annoying.

Why resort to some fancy fireworks and crazy spells.. All you really need is a simple Protection from Undead scroll (this should really be a spell for paladins and clerics heh), slap it on, grab a +4 weapon or better, go in, crack the skull and pick the loot.

Unless you're some crazy caster, then sure, waltz in and go trigger happy

Normally I'd agree with you, but at the time I found it, I was fresh out of scrolls! I used them up killing Bodhi and the other vamps in her lair.

(Off topic, Bodhi): It was kind of wierd, actually - I had my fighter and Minsc protected, with Drizzt at my side, the rest of the party back out of sight. Once the rest of the beasties were dead, I wailed on Bodhi for what seemed like an eternity, without her attacking any of the three of us. We must have done over 500 damage to her. And she only died after the vorpal sword sliced her to bits.

Sorry about the sidebar - the moral of the story is always have a protection from undead scroll handy....

Derk---the protect from undead spell makes you invisible from undead, so when you killed Bodhi she couldn't see you and therefore her death dialogue never popped up. You probably missed her last despairing shout.

Personally, I never used protect from undead or protect from magic scrolls for this reason and that they seem to screw with some of the games mechanics.

I personally never used the Protect from Undead on vamps, they aren't much of a problem anyway. When you have a cleric in the party, let him/her crunch the Turn Undead and watch them fly to bits'n'pieces. Paladin will do as well, though paladin's Turn Undead is 2 levels below the paladin level, i.e. lvl 17 paladin has lvl 15 Turn Undead. Just make sure you have Protection from Negative Plane on, or Amulet of Power (unless you're a fighter type or monk).

In your case, where Bodhi didn't speak to you, the reason was in the scroll. The Protection from Undead makes the undead not see you, and many NPC's will act AFTER they see you. Like Kangaxx the Demilich turning invulnerable, because everyone was "invisible" to him BEFORE he spoke his cryptic speech and now he just wont die. Or Bodhi, who needs to SEE you to talk to you and only then will be killable. But since she couldn't see you...

Interesting idea. I never considered this. Maybe the scroll wore off on my main character, and that's when she finally died, although I can't say that for certain. I started to get worried after a while that I would become visible again and get level drained back to infancy.

Thanks for the insight.

@Bruce Lee and @ReignsOfPower

Referring to your earlier posts on why Mace of Disruption doesn't work, it's because it's a + 2 weapon and the Demi Lich requires + 4 and above to hit.

With regard to Dragon's Breath and other spells, perhaps you have done a Pierce Magic on the Demi before letting loose?

As for me, I took the easy way out by changing into the Slayer form and absorbed the - 2 Reputation hit. Gotta find me a temple next

Actually, Mace of disruption+2 should work, as it does extra damage to undead and it has a chance of killing them outright. I beat Kangy pretty quickly with it...
